Re: PLz Help!!! PLease help me identify me newborn I just got from LLL!Suriname I hop

heres his cage....is thw hide box on left good idea....will he know o go in the top where I cut a hole? the heat pad is under the tank and so he has the glass an inch of aspen bedding and some bedding in the hide to shied and keep 93 degrees approx. Until I find something better I like I wanna use that. Also cleaning off some brnches I found outside with hot water and dawn scrubbing them real good then heating them in the oven to kill and parasites

Re: PLz Help!!! PLease help me identify me newborn I just got from LLL!Suriname I hop

I cant help much with the ID, sorry.

as for the enclosure, I like to have enough length for the snake to fully stretch out along one side if it wants to. I think the old rule of thumb is for the length and width to be at least as long as the snake's total length. So if the floor of your tank is 30x12 then it would be OK until the snake is 30-42" long. I don't think a clear hide is much of a hide. It is still pretty visible. You can find some pretty inexpensive things to use that are not clear. I used some plastic bowls I found at a local department store. Cost around $3. I also have a few of the plastic plant pots that I trimmed down. Some people use dog water bowls. Just flip them upside down and cut a half circle notch in it for the snake to enter. and be sure the edges arent sharp so the snake doesnt cut or rub itself raw.

Unless you know (really know) the breeder you are getting your animal from, and can establish a pedigree, you can't really say 100% anything. Even then, lines can only be traced back so far. If LLL said it's a wild caught Suriname, it probably is... could there me something else in the mix? Sure- possibly. it's kind of a crap-shoot. If you could post better pics of saddles and head it may help. I have two Cypress Creek line Guyana RTBs. The female is very chocolate in her base color and her tail is very crimson. The male is a much lighter brown base color with much brighter tail. And, 28" sounds a bit generous for a two month old animal...even with power feeding.

They’ll get pretty large. More so than Boa imperator. Prob not 10”, but very likely a beefy 6+ ish... and for a boa, that’s a lot of snake to wrangle. .

Can anyone identify exactly what kind of boa it is? Is it Suriname?

if they told you its a bcc then im sure it is. cant tell very well because of poor pictures but saddles on top look bcc to me. if you want a 10 foot 75 lbs snake then why did you buy a male boa? its pretty dumb to buy a snake you dont want.

Like ws said before, without papers and lineage, nobody can. there is enough variance in coloring that it could have traits of other species and be "pure". But at some point something in its lineage was wild caught and that may not have been "pure". I buy snakes that I find beautiful and interesting because I dont want a piece of paperwork for a pet, I want a snake I like. You are hung up on it being a pure suriname...but why? what trait does the pure have that you are seeking? if the snake has it, then you are happy. If it doesn't, then you are not. Unless you are trying to breed and want to guarantee lineage. In which case, you need papers anyway.

Nobody can guarantee adult size by looking at a juvenile either. Way too many factors, and not all of them are genetic. You can just go by averages and see how yours turns out.

And by the way, your snake is very nice looking. I would just not worry about its purity, raise it and see what happens.

Re: PLz Help!!! PLease help me identify me newborn I just got from LLL!Suriname I hop

BB, again... unless you know it was caught in Suriname, the best you can say is that it has Suriname/Boa constrictor characteristics. If you look at the maps, Guyana and Suriname are only separated by a line on the map. Who's to say that a boa that was reported to be Suriname wasn't sneaking over the border and got caught in Guyana? Now it's a Guyanese boa... see what I'm getting at? Post some better pics and that may help. From what I can gather on a saddle count in the second set of pics would suggest Bcc, but even saddle counts/scale counts are not always 100% accurate. Check out some of the big Bcc breeders online and several of them have good info. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Re: PLz Help!!! PLease help me identify me newborn I just got from LLL!Suriname I hop

Thank you guys so much. Idvsego. That was very insightful. I don’t care where it came from that’s not the reason I wanted what I had before years back of very bright almost silver colored snake with beautiful markings and a beautiful rose red tail that have a thick girth to it and thick head.

I do Love mine already he just took his meal from me on the first day I got him he ate a half a mouse but he definitely can take an adult mouse or rat pops if I can get them from Petco or maybe I will order some I love him he’s awesome besides from him striking when I first open the box he has not done that since he is very tame and now I just can’t wait to hold him after a few days of him digesting I seem to have the temperatures pretty good in the cage only downside is that night the temperatures drop into the low 70s I hope that’s OK he does always have a 90s hotspot at all times.

Also mostly wanted a female Suriname for its size. 8-10 feet 60-100 pound ssounds absolutely perfect to me. But they gave me a male it’s all they had so I was hoping he would still get pretty large and impressive.

I would say definitely he is BCC not BCI. So if they told you he is suriname most probably he is. a male could get pretty large too. You need to take good care of his diet if you want him to grow big between 8 to 10 feet and 60 pounds+. feed him every 5 to 7 days until he reaches one year old. Switch him to rats when he is 4 to 5 months old. And your hiding box, the hole that you cut seems to have sharp ends. He might hurt himself if he was inside there and striking at food. I would buy him a normal hide, they are available every where

He's definitely a Suri, they're variable in appearances.

How big he will get will depend on feeding and genetics. Each individual baby from any given litter will grow at their own separate lengths and rates. Snake growth is also indeterminate: in that it isn't possible to accurately predict their growth, their growth doesn't follow a set pattern.

Baby boas are also born at different lengths...some will be smaller some will be larger. 2 months and 28" does seem a bit large, but 120 grams is about the weight I'd expect for a boa of that age. Either he's light for his length, or some numbers are off somewhere, my 28" boas have been 175-180 grams or so. Again, each individual will be different, so it's possible that he is just light, but I believe you stated your female to be nearly half the weight or more of what I'd expect of a boa her length as well...so I have to wonder if you're getting some conversions wrong or something.

An 8' boa should be closer to 25-35 lbs. I haven't seen many 10' boas, but the few I have seen have been closer to 30-40 lbs. A 60-100 lb boa is going to be one massively obese animal.

Sorry...no. This is not a responsible feeding schedule at all. 5-7 days does not offer enough time for them to digest their meals, and you shouldn't be feeding a snake with faster growth or bigger sizes in mind...they should grow at their own, healthy pace.

Birth - 1 year every 10-14 days, but 7-10 is acceptable. 5 and 6 is not.
1 year: 14+ days
2 years: 2-3 weeks
3+: 4-6 weeks

This is with the average meal being roughly the same size as the girth of the snake while leaving little to no difference in girth. Meals that leave a large bulge with scale separation should be spaced out accordingly and then staggered out with smaller meals every other feeding. Overfeeding them may get them big quicker, but at the cost of their long term health and longevity.
