Big Girl
I have a beautiful Brazilian Rainbow Boa...I've had her for about 6 years now...I usually fed her about every 6 weeks. But this past year was a little rough so she only ate like every 3 months...Things have gotten better and its a good thing cause she is almost 8 ft. So my question is how often should I feed her and is she going to get much bigger???? She's out growing the 75 gallon tank she's in now....And I don't know what I should move her into...

Re: Big Girl
8ft huh? Wow. I thought they were usually 4-6. That is a big boy. I have a baby and was planning on a 4x2x18 enclosure but now I am thinking bigger might be better.

Re: Big Girl
8-ft snake? At the bare minimum a 6'x2', but I'd recommend a 8'x3'. And even though it semi-arboreal, I don't think that you could really find a cage large enough, with branches thick enough, to support its weight.
I could be wrong, though...that has happened before...once or twice.

Re: Big Girl
The other folks have the cage size well covered...but I am curious and have to ask what method you have used to measure your snake to determine it's length?

Re: Big Girl
A six foot enclosure is good for a Brazilian rainbow boa, keep in mind they are not thick bodied snakes like red tails. You can use an 8 foot, but a six foot would be just fine. Your going to need to either get a custom enclosure built, or build one yourself. I recommend a 6'x2'x2' but, it's up to you. Water proofing is relatively easy, Home Depot sells a good eco-friendly water proofing solution for wood. You can get pretty much all the materials you need at Home Depot, and there are good tutorials online. If you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Big Girl
I think a 4x2 cage would be fine for your BRB. I love Animal Plastics enclosures. They're very well made.

Re: Big Girl
I'd love to see photos of a BRB that large. I have two now, with a third on the way and 5-6 feet is what I've understood is about the largest they should get; especially if she's only eating once every two to three months. Could you please post a photo of your big girl?

7' is quite common, and I've heard of a few 8-footers, but I'm not sure if any photos were ever provided. 8' is a bit of a stretch, but not completely outside the realm of possibilities, but it's likely the snake isn't quite that big.
They mentioned they normally feed every 6 weeks, it's just recently it's gone 2-3 months. Which I would also probably feed an 8' BRB every 6 weeks myself, or no more than 4-5 at the most.
I would agree with the majority that a 6'x2' would be best. Length+Width should be equal to or greater than the snake's length.
