First day in the 80's here

Reached 80 degrees today, went out and caught about 20 baby garters (I didn't "catch" all of them it gets a bit repetitive, and a few larger ones and a shed skin. Only one of them bit me and it was about 8 inches long so... yea. Didn't have my camera though, so I used the phone.

The bitey one

Slightly larger one

One of the larger ones.

I like the first pic, did you not get tempted to keep one?

eh, not really. When I go "herping" , 99% of the time garters are the only snake I see. Very rarely some ringnecks, and if I'm in the right area some water snakes...My area is pretty urban, so whatever wood patches there are are not great for herping. Anyways, garters are fun to catch, and nothing like lifting up a log and seeing a piece of tail or something slither off. But keeping them, not really tempting after 15 + years of catching them over and over lol

Oh, and the one in the second pic on the rock, was really red/orange with the striping. Camera just didn't pick it up I guess.

I didn't know that you have done it for 15 years pretty sure I wouldn't keep one if I had them growing nearby lol

I can see the red stripe now you pointed it out why did you not take your new camera? lol.

Wasn't expecting to go actually, I just noticed the black tarp + the weather and decided to give it a go. Once I get started its hard to stop lol

And yea, since I was maybe 7 or 8....Only a few times do I ever see anything else with regards to reptiles. But even the garters are interesting because you never know what size is going to pop up, and they vary so greatly its fun to see the diff colors / patterns. Wish I had the camera though lol
