Re: New Salvator photos from Vital Exotics
Is the black dragon another species? I thought it was just like the 'night niles' at BHB. Also, can these albinos see well or are they like the albino niles / iguanas?

Nah, tons come into the country, most end up in the hands of morons and die quickly, or live terrible lives. Compared to most quality reptile collections, vital exotics is top notch, and blows away the competition in terms of caging and care.

Re: New Salvator photos from Vital Exotics
Thanks for the compliments guys. The "Black Dragons" used to be looked at and classified as a subspecies up until a few years ago, when they were re-classified as basically a melanistic Salvator. Plus there have always seemed to be different localities of the Black's not necessarily a separate species or sub-species due to many degrees of varying head and body structure. The Blacks are fairly rare here. They used to come in wild caught here and there over the years, but they are and were very hard to deal with (being WC) and most have not ended up in proper care. They have only been bred (mated, laid and hatched out offspring) so far by one person worldwide, a friend of mine, Quetzal in Costa Rica, and that was 4-5 yrs ago. I should have some in a few months as well as the Black X High Yellow locality crosses. I really enjoy working with this species. They are great if you are up for the work and commitment.

So ur saying varanus komaini is now no longer a sub sp of salvator ?????
As I knw melanism happens in alot of the sub sp but to me that look a seperate sub sp .....
As it looks to me a komaini breeding with a different sub sp maybe a bivittatus ??? If so should that mixing of sub sp b happening .. ??

Re: New Salvator photos from Vital Exotics
V 87...V. Komaini is no longer a sub-species like I said above. There have always been "Black Dragons" that seem to have different structures, etc suggesting that there are more than one locality with all Black Salvators, so basically, when V. Komaini was looked at as a sub-species, there were other Black ones who should not have fallen under its classification anyways, due to differences. I have bred my Reptile Guru male (Marmoratus X Macromaculatus cross) to my female Black Dragon.

How much are you going to sell the blacks for (an arm and a leg?) , and have any ideas what the cross will look like?
