Re: Varanus Preservation

I don't remember which one.....lets go with conservation that makes more sense with endangered species.

Preferably reptiles, and yes, we need less humans but I'm sure we will take care of that ourselves soon enough lol

Re: Varanus Preservation

How about the Butaan (Varanus bitatawa), one of the 3 so far discovered frugivorous species of Varanid. Dr. Daniel Bennett`s been studyng them in the wild for some time, if you visit his website you`ll get more details: mampam.com
Or check the IUCN red list for other threatened/endangered species.

Wow, that site has alot of monitors in the pet trade...savannahs, peachies, waters, cumingi , kimberly, indicus...thats depressing.

The yemen monitor looks like a cross between a blackthroat and griseus, I've never seen one till I just saw it on the list and googled it.

Maybe I can do savannahs and raise awareness, I have to decide tonight though

I may be biased, but I would chose this topic.

Re: Varanus Preservation

And I bet you if you asked questions on the Butaan thread, Daniel may answer. (He's subscribed to that thread) Animal Planet took down the Butaan page, but the video links still work.

Butaan Monitor Special

Re: Varanus Preservation

I almost had it, but my DVD burner made me a "coaster" (unplayable dud)......

There is no official DVD release, Animal planet reruns it every few months.

Re: Varanus Preservation

Ah ok, I'm not real big on TV. Last I checked animal planet only had shows about pampering your poodles and stories about strange animal encounters (garbage). And discovery doesn't play any shows unless they have to do with alaska...I miss the old discovery/animal planet.

be sure to post a thread here if the show is airing any time soon I'd like to watch something productive.

Anyone have scientific journals or articles published on this topic?
