confused about something

ok this is a legit question that has been confusing me, while i have been looking into enclosures i have seen 2 competing setups, though i might be missing something here.

Theres the terrariums, in which case my 4 foot ball fits nice and snuggly in a 67 gallon aquarium 4 foot by 18 inches.

then theres the plastic bin setup which i have seen a few people use, as well as the drawers that i see breeders using that seem to be drastically smaller as far as floor space.

i have a few snakes that are "out on display" as it were, my ball's tank is in the living room as is the BRB's tank, and i have a few others planned that im doing up nice and will be relatively decorative. however after that i wont really have any more room for the big decorative layouts until i move somewhere else

However i do plan to expand my collection over time and it will probably involve re-aranging my office into a reptile room with space at a bit of a premium. So i guess im wondering what is the rule of thumb for a situation like this? are these plastic setups only a temporary housing arangements? how big is too big a snake to be keeping in a bin like that?

Generally the "accepted" bin for adult ball pythons is the 2221 rubbermaid bin, most breeders use it for even the biggest females. People either love racks (the shelving that holds bins), or they HATE them.

There are bins that can hold much larger constrictors, I saw a rack that held 8 foot by 2 foot bins... depends what you want and how much space/money you have.

According to some, no snake is too big for a bin.

As Stephan said, they come in many sizes. Most common homemade ones are the ones he mentioned and also popular are the 41qt size.

Personally, I believe if you're keeping a couple of snakes purely as pets then I'd recommend a nice pvc enclosure. Doesn't have to be large by any means but it allows for a bit more viewing than the rack system.

I think the rack system is a better option for people who have collections for breeding larger numbers and for business purposes.

i like those 2221 bins that makes sense to me, especially for younger ones as temporary homes.

i might aim for something like this, though it seems a little bloated in the framing, could easily get a 3rd enclosure into that size suited for a ground snake



but if my rainbow is big enough next year i might try to breed him and i will check out those bins more

You'd need 6qt bins for babies.

yeah but around here i might be lucky to sell off the babies before the next year, so i might be looking at the next size up too, but thats at least a year away, i have lots of time to research that.

For now im just focused on finding a new job to fund this hobby more
