Keeping humidity up

For those of you that keep your large snakes with newspaper, how do you keep your humidity up? I keep my 12ft male retic in a 6'x3'x18" enclosure with a large water bowl, but am having a lot of trouble keeping the humidity in the 70% range. I have to mist like 3 or 4 times a day but it always drops to like 50% or less.

Tubs with holes in it and moss. Works for me.

It's a large aquarium flipped on its side. I heat it with the zoo med heat cable and the hot spot is on the far right at 91 degrees and there's a little bit of the cable going around the rest of the bottom with each cable spaced about 5" apart from each other.

Re: Keeping humidity up

I'm not exactly sure on the cool side but the room stays around 78 degrees so I'm assuming its around there

Re: Keeping humidity up

Is that open mesh each end? If it is that is where your humidity is going

Re: Keeping humidity up

That was the only way I could get ventilation in there since the rest of it is a glass aquarium. If I covered some of it up, would that be enough ventilation?

Re: Keeping humidity up

I'd block that open mesh area with a sheet of wood and get a few circular vents from eBay, sure to sort that problem out.

Re: Keeping humidity up

I would block at least 90% of the mesh...

Re: Keeping humidity up

Hi, you need to block almost ALL of the mesh off, even 3 or 4 small 1/2inch holes at each side are enough for air exchange (you`ll get that anyway whenever you open the enclosure). Put them low down, that way you shouldn`t lose much humidity at all.

Hi, do you mean "mist" as in spray, or "missed" as in didn`t notice?
