I have a 2 month old Male Yellow belly ball python and my friend just bought a adult female chocolate ball python and I was wondering what would be a good morph to breed it with. I plan on getting a adult male sometime this week so any suggestions would be useful

Well the lady decided that she didn't want to sell her chocolate after we had already drove 200 of the 300 miles to pick it but we found 2 female regular het clowns and a regular het albino male for 300 so hopefully we can get at least one albino clown

That's a horrible idea.

Both clown and albino are recessive.

That means is BOTH parents need to carry the albino or clown gene to produce them.

What you have there is a project for normals that are all POSSIBLE double het for albino clown.

You should research before you buy.

Yep now you need to look for a male clown and a female albino(for the best odds at producing morphs)

Breeding them together will give you all normals with a 50% chance of being het clown and/or 50% chance at being het albino. With recessive traits being carried it is very hard to tell who carries what. Some traits have "Het markers" but they are not 100% reliable. So basically you will be only producing $25 normals.

If anything I wrote is confusing then you need to do lots more research. Breeding is not about just putting two pretty animals together and hoping something happens. Learning genetics is a big part of becoming a respectful breeder.

I also just purchased a Female Mojave and a Male Mojave mix im not sure what the male is exactly I know he has mojave because he has the trait patterns but he is also extremely dark and has 2 orange spots right behind his head. Any ideas? I went to worldofballpythons.com but cant find anything close to what he looks like when i get my camera working again I will post pics.

I am still doing alot of studying about how genetics work and how dominant, co- dominant, lesser, het, hypo and axanthic effect breeding outcomes.

It could just be a mojave male. Ball pythons can look different as normals, we have light/dark/busy pattern/reduced pattern so the mutations can do the same as well.

I think you should do more studying before you start breeding.

Albino and clown are both recessive.
