How Often Do You Do A Full Enclosure Cleaning?

This does not include spot cleaning when needed. I'm talking about a complete cleaning: old substrate out, accessories removed/cleaned, water bowl washed, whole enclosure washed, new substrate replaced and enclosure put back in order?

I use paper under the aspen chips. It makes it easier for me to roll it all up and only have to scoop up what falls out.

I change paper and give it a quick wipe down as needed, depending upon poop and pee. Once a week I clean the entire enclosure, including lid, inside and out.

Most of my enclosures- never. I use bio-active substrate. The animals are healthy, the enclosures don't smell, I even had a vet test a few of my enclosures for amonia and other compounds and they tested all within healthy levels. I plan on doing this again some time after the new year.

For some things it is about every 6 months but then for my bearded dragon usually once a day but sometimes up to twice a day.

Re: How Often Do You Do A Full Enclosure Cleaning?

I'm at home alot so when my snakes do their business I clean it up as soon as, so about 6 months for a full clean out doesn't feel too long, more often though it's never really been over 5 months, if I see I nice new water dish or different substrate I'd like to try, I'll give the enclosure a good clean so I can try it out.

With my BTS I do a total clean with the season change, roughly every three months. Water bowl is changed daily when I spot clean.

What does your bioactive substrate consist of?

I keep different species of bugs in my enclosures to break down waste. I also have live plants to keep the environment fresh and healthy.

Spot clean when needed but the environments are mini biodomes. Earthworms and beatles are great maids

Re: How Often Do You Do A Full Enclosure Cleaning?

I plan on making my arboreal enclosures completely bioactive the boa bp and bullsnake and lizards will remain on the same schedule as they are now. Then again my lacertas have bioactive substrate so I clean them a lot less
