Split Belly Scales

This little girl is kept on Repti-Bark, with absolutely nothing sharp in the enclosure. This is the lower 1/3 of her body, approximately, and she has just gone into shed. Any ideas?

cleft scutes are a congenital defect, that usually means there was a problem during incubation mate

from the 1 picture i have of cleft scutes, they look like the scales, above the thin brown line on your snakes belly Roy

cheers shaun

Re: Split Belly Scales

Thanks, Shaun.

Does it look different than what we've determined to be the belly button in this photo?

re your picture
above the thin brown line, there are scales that sit further apart, above that, there is a pearlecent type look to some of the scales...

if yours does NOT have, what looks like a pearlecent look and the scale appears flat underneath the pearlecent part, then imo it's NOT cleft scutes mate

sorry for the crap description mate

cheers shaun

Re: Split Belly Scales

So THAT's what that is. I noticed it on my BP and assumed he had somehow cut his scales...
