Talking Monday's sweet litter of BRB's......

Love a little candy in the morning. For the last several days, actually more than a week now that I think about it, Dawn has been in her water bowl soaking. Bred by Ziggy but not looking huge. She was a little swollen and acting like a gravid female, refusing food and staying on the warm side. I've been hoping for at least a small litter with more evidence of the Candy Stripe trait. Checked on them last night and she was out of her water bowl and down in the hide. Hmmm, is she getting ready to drop? I had her due date as 09/19 so well within normal plus/minus a week to ten days.

This morning I found.....

Yup, she did have a small litter in her, 5 babies and some slugs.!

One of the slugs was odd that it appears to have been pinched and twisted and almost looks like two slugs connected by an umbilical cord.

Looks like two Candy Stripe het Hypos and three het Hypos. Just born so I left them alone to find their own way out of the sacks and into mom's cage. A few closer pics of the two Candy stripe het Hypos with a normal in the same shot for comparison.

This was a small but awesome litter for me. Does several things including...

Key pairing in proving the trait. Het x normal = 1/2(ish) hets
Not related to the hypo gene. (yes, not fully proven with such a small litter but fairly high probability)
Some more candy for my collection!!

Thanks for looking!!

Congrats, Dave! Did you finally prove the genetics out as a formal morph?

IMO not fully proven, still needs a few more breeding trials but I am even more convinced now with this little litter.

There should be at least five types of trials done with close to expected results....

Het x Het - done with the original pairing
het x normal - done with this het x Hypo (also shows not related to hypo)
Het x Super - TBD (1/2 hets, 1/2 Supers)
Super x normal - TBD (All Hets)
Super x Super - TBD (All Supers)

Of course none of the "Super" based trials can't be done until adult "Supers" exist, working on raising up the original Supers.

Good for you for planning the proper due diligence to vet the trait. I've seen too many people advertise something as a proven morph long before the evidence was complete.

Only because I was headed out the door to work. I did stop long enough to snap a few pics and put the tub back.
