Boas and retics?

Whenever I tell people my favorite snakes are red tails and retics they never say anything nice. Things like "opposite ends of the aggression spectrum" or "retics or horribly aggressive" but for some reason I find similarities between them. I can't quite describe it, maybe it's they're curiosity or intelligence? Or feeding response? I can't explain it, does anyone else know what I'm talking about or is it really just me?

Re: Boas and retics?

Im not sure what you are asking but Ill tell you this much... I also like both species. Boas are very docile; some of the calmest snakes around. I dont have any experience with Retics since in Iowa, they are not legal. That having been said, and I can only guess at this point based in what Ive seen in other species, with regular handling the agression does calm down. Yes Retics have a strong feed drive, and since Burms and Macklot's have a similar feed drive, I can tell you that even though they calm down with handling, that feed drive never goes away if Retics are anything like Macklot's and Burms. As far a Boas are concerned, I have not seen them hit their prey as hard but they still have a decent feed drive. Of course for me, it helps when I feed my Macks first. That way by the time I get to my Dums, they are ready.

Retics? Aggressive?! Maybe toward their food, but never towards me! He's even started letting me put my hands in his cage right after he's done eating (hour or so later). I think it depends on the retic
