*Update* Ama's Mucked up Jaw

Well, Turns out my mother, who is terrified of snakes, knows a person whos daughter is a Vet, With more herp experience than any of the local Vets, So, A quick trip to Oceanside, and a few hours in a waiting room here is what happened

Ama's Jaw is Fortunately NOT broken, What happened was she somehow managed to Hook 3 of her teeth into her Lower lip Resulting in her being Unable to Properly Align her Jaw

After some talking and Debate, She decided Tob offer Ama a Rather Large rat (bigger than usual but stilll within reason) Despite having eaten so recently, Ama being the hearty Girl that she Is, Chowed down with Glee, Afterwords upon inspection her teeth appeared to have worked their way out of her lip (most likely while nomming the large rodent)

She reccomended i keep an eye on her, and watch for constipation and regurge due to the meal size, and to Try Covering the enclosure Front with something along the lines of a sound proofing panel to cut down on stimulus after eating, and provided she doesnt continue striking Glass, She should be just Fine, She is blue Right now, So The pictures i will be taking and uploading soon wont be Great, But she looks Much better

As always thank you for your time and Feedback

i'm glad shes ok and her jaws sorted out

being honest.....

imo,the vets NOT as clued up as you think mate

1.imo she should NOT have fed a snake that was going on a car journey, incase of a regurge

2.she SHOULD have UNHOOKED the snagged teeth,BEFORE a prey item was offered (it being offered once you were BACK in the house) if i'm reading your post properly," she offered food, waited on her feeding,ONLY then did she decide,to check if the teeth were still snagged (my apologies,if i got it wrong)

3.imo if a snake takes a prey item, then it cannot be too BIG/LARGE for the snake,or it would NOT have taken it in the first place,so i don't think that will lead to a regurge or constipation

i'm NOT being cheeky, merely pointing out a few things,i would NOT expect my vet to do

cheers shaun

Re: *Update* Ama's Mucked up Jaw

Shes young, But of all the vets ive taken my snakes to, she has the most reptile experience

and as far as im concerned better the devil i know than the devil I dont

A freind of mine had a reptile vet attempt to wire shut his boas mouth a few years back

And you are correct she essentially used the prey item to unhook the teeth for her

agree with Shaun, the teeth should've been unhooked before offering food. I thought it looked similar to when Stephan's retic got his lip caught on his teeth.

When the teeth get caught like that all you have to do is carefully up the mouth and use something round like a Q-tip to careful unhook them. It's really easy. I would have suggested it sooner, but from the picture i thought for sure it was broke.

Re: *Update* Ama's Mucked up Jaw

I'm really glad to hear it's been sorted out. That's the main thing and it got resolved.

However I do agree with what the others have said. I'm not saying that the vet you used is bad or no good. You said she is the most knowledgeable about reptiles vet yourself. One of the main issues with having snakes, or pretty much ANY reptile, is there are so few vets who really know anything, aside bare fundamentals, if that.

I'm still really glad to hear that she's doing ok and it wasn't broken as originally suspected. Can't wait to see pictures of your girl once she's shed.

Exactly as shaun said. This happened to my retic if you look at past posts, I waited about 20 minutes before Kimberly figured it out and it was too long, his left eye is permanently off by a hair looking inwards. Hes also been an angry bugger since.
Best of luck
