Re: emergency situations :(

I have a basement for tornadoes. I also keep deli cups, animal carriers, and tubs at my disposal in case of an evacuation. We've had two serious risks for evacuation since living here, both from fire threats.

Re: emergency situations :(

Thankfully, my house has a generator that kicks in when we lose electricity here (South FL) due to tropical storms or hurricanes. Not sure what I would do otherwise. I guess they could stay in their cage a while because it would remain warm but that wouldn't last long.

I have hot packs that I put on the outside of the viv's. In August from hurricane Irene my power was out for four days and the hot packs worked. Oh by the way tekpc my hog is scheduled to ship next Monday, I'm so stoked.

You are placing ALL of your snakes in 1 tub?

I have a tub for each reptile along with heat packs. I then have a large tote that all the tubs fit in for easy moving if needed. I have no reason to really worry about anything where I live though. Loosing power in the winter is the biggest threat and I have a generator as well as back up heat. I could live just fine with no power all winter.

Re: emergency situations :(

we are always vigilant of natural disasters here in central florida. Honestly if we are under a tornado warning I heard a tornado I would grab my kids and get under a mattress in the hallway or take them into the bathroom that's in the middle of our house (the most central area) and deal with the rest later. It sounds harsh I know but my children are everything to me. As for hurricanes and power outages, it is warm enough here that everything I have should be ok without any power. We usually stock up on water and we've gone days without electricity. I think the longest was about 6 years ago we went two weeks and everything was just fine. We keep meaning to buy a generator but would only use it to run our refridgerator and freezer.

If we had to evacuate for a really bad hurricane, I would probably take the cats with me, and the bearded dragon since it requires so much attention. I would feed all the snakes and put them in the garage to hunker down or take them with me in rubbermade tubs depending on the severity of the situation. Honestly though here in central florida we usually stay home and ride out the hurricanes.

Re: emergency situations :(

Few couple years back one winter the power was out for a day and half. I put all five snakes i had each one in it's own snake bags then put them in one big tote with heat packs. Then made the 30 minute drive to my moms.

As for tornadoes my snake room is in the basement so they are safe.

if i only had a few minuets to get all my animals down to safety... yes.

i dont really know how to respond to this... in a case of emergency, yes i would... if i had only a few minuets to try and save the reptiles i have, yes, i would put them all in a tub together.

but what i really meant is put them all in seperate pillow cases then put them into a tub... but if situation need be, i would put them all into the tub with nothing to save them.

since i live in OHIO all i have to worry about is tornados/power outages. in case of power outage i have heat packs for them.

Re: emergency situations :(

Ok.. I guess seeing as where I live I don't have to think like that I understand where you are coming from.

I was thinking more of power outage and heat loss..

Yeah, my whole state was/is still on fire. Right now I'm too far east to be affected by the fires, though. I hope it stays that way.
