What type of corn snake do i have?

Hey guys! I recently bought a corn snake but i'm not sure what kind it is, this is my very first pet snake. Iv'e been told it was a hypo or a Carolina Classic. Also i have two more question to ask. I want it to get big really fast but not fat and still be healthy, how often should i feed it? Also does it look like it's be ready for fuzzies?

There is no reason rush his growth. Feed him once a week, and te right size of mice, and he will grow healthy. For his size it looks like he might still need to be on pinkies.

Re: What type of corn snake do i have?

Danny, you don't want it to get big really fast, you want it to grow normally and healthy.

if you can get a weight in grams (digital scale) we can give you the munson plan on when it switches from eating pinkies every 5 days to every 7 days and then when it is to switch to fuzzies.

or you go by the width at the largest part of the body, prey should be 1.5 times larger than the widest part of his body.

"power feeding" is practised by people who want thier snakes to grow fast, but it is not healthy for the snake to do so.

Don't be in a hurry, as healthy snakes make healthy babies. Let it grow up at a normal rate.

Getting it "big fast" will just overstress its organs and reduce its life, feed one prey item a week, upto twice its girth and it will grow healthily

Re: What type of corn snake do i have?

I use the munson plan as a guideline for mine, and they are all healthy and happy and growing nicely.

it's hard to tell in the pics, but is there any black outline on his saddles?? (the spots on his back)

If there is no black, he could be an odd colored Amel.

It is hard to tell but he could be a hypo. There does not appear to be a lot of black on him ( hypomelanistics have a greatly reduced melanin black pigment)

Re: What type of corn snake do i have?

Yes, but he doesn't look like my baby Amels, mine are far brighter than that.

But you're right, I did say Possible Hypo in a PM to Danny, but I've never seen a hatchling Hypo in person, so it was hard for me to say.

It doesn't look a bit like my Hypo-Amel yearling either???

My guess is really low black normal, Hypo, or strange colored Amel!!

Hey Danny, give us a picture of the belly too, that could help us decide!!

Yeah sure i'll take more pictures tomorrow. You can kinda see i just fed him/her in the second picture right before i took these, i don't want to handle him just yet. Also i have never really noticed any black around the spots but i'll check tomorrow!

Re: What type of corn snake do i have?

Yea i think so too because my snake's spots don't have black outlines. So I guess it's a hypo amel?

this is my hypo amel yearling

hypoamelmotmpic2[1].jpg
