Oak Branches

2 large fallen Oak branches. One saw. Tub filled with bleach and water.

I have no current plans for these, but if I ever build a large enclosure, I will have some GREAT climbing branches!

Re: Oak Branches

Those look real nice... a reptile will enjoy those one day, for sure any ideas if you'll get a reptile, build that enclosure, and incorporate those?

Re: Oak Branches

My snakes are in a rack right now, but one day I will build a couple of nice display cages and put these to use.

Re: Oak Branches

So I'm not the only one who stock piles branches lol. I have a whole bunch I've gathered over time. Once I make a nice stack, they will get put to use.

Re: Oak Branches

I got some branches outside for my Dumerils Boa's future enclosure when he out grows his current home, but all I did was boil water and pour the boiling water all over the branches. Do you think this is good enough to make them safe for my snake and worked just as good as bleach, or should I be concerned? Thanks

I might be concerned that the boiling water didnt reach whatever is hidden beneath the bark. I allowed mine to soak for an hour so the bleach saturated every thing.

Thanks for the reply, what ratio of bleech to water did you use? Did you use a whole bottle of bleech or more? Also the bleach soaks into the branch so how do you rinse all the bleach out and off good enough after soaking them?

Thanks

Re: Oak Branches

10% should do it. I used half a large bottle in my tub.

I then soaked in clean water for an hour. Let sit in the sun for a day or so and any remaining bleach will dissipate.

Re: Oak Branches

Beautiful, hot, sunny day. PERFECT for drying the logs:

I am guessing that in about 2 years, these will be put to use, although I have a friend who will get one in about a month.
