new jungle python

Just after some general info on my new jungle python. I have had sniper now for 6 weeks handled him a couple of times but I am finding it hard to get him out. as soon as I walk up to the tank he wraps around a branch and gets ready to strike. Used a hook to try and get him out but scared I am going to hurt him. Any suggestions?
Also he shed 1st week I got him how often are they ment to shed?
what is an average size and how fast do jungle pythons grow mine is about 2 yr old so I've been told and about 2 foot long does this sound about right?

2 feet for a 2 year old is very short imo, my guy is around 10 mos and he is 1.5 feet long.

Jungles can be expected to get around 4-7 feet (depending on male or female)

As for hurting him there's a very small chance he will get hurt imo

As long as you are not dragging him out whilst he holds on he should be fine - try to support as much of his body as you can and he should transfer to you from the branch.

Is it a big deal to pull the branch he is on out? Take it right out and handle him on it. Coach him off ect. We are having fun trying to handle our little guy too.

Re: new jungle python

My jungle is the snappiest critter I own. She's just a yearling though. If she doesn't want to be bothered don't try. Honestly its bite/strike 4-5 times then ask questions. She has her good days and her bad days. There are days where she climbs on the hook and wants to be held and other days she strikes the hook and wants no part of it.

Just learn to read her. When mine is being cooperative her breathing is slow and she pokes her head out uncoiled. If she's not pleasant she's coiled up head in the defensive posture and her breathing becomes real noticeable. I don't mess with her when she's like this.

She is proving a challenge but she's so pretty that Ill take the strikes so she gets used to me.

Did you try opening the viv and letting her come to you? It may take a while but its worth a shot.

Edit for spelling...smart phone not to smart!

I so agree! At two years it should be close to 3 feet or more.
