King Snake

So my King snake that went off feed at the beginning of winter was hibernation, first time I have went through that. Now she is pregnant again (idk how she dose it but she dose) and I am hopefully expecting her to shed soon and maybe lay. She has been putting on weight for what seems like a month and a half and seem extremely thick in one area today. Just thought I would send an update and also I had a quick question. She he very hungry and trust me my thumb knows lol, and I was wondering if it would be ok to feed her a rat pup or pinkie? If so just let me know.

What do you mean you don't know how? Is she housed with a male?

Re: King Snake

Don't snakes have the ability to hold onto sperm until the conditions are right then release it to fertilize the eggs....

I thought that was the reason it was so hard to get an exact gestation period because no one knows the exact time of fertilization.

Re: King Snake

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't they also lay unfertilized eggs as well?

I've heard of snakes (unless I've gotten confused with some lizard threads I've read) doing both but I can't remember if it's a snake specific thing or any have the ability to do either......

Hopefully someone much more knowledgeable will chime in soon. I'd love to know!

Re: King Snake

From the people that I have talk to, snakes if live long enough and have never bread than they will get rid of their egg follicles. No she is not with a male and has never been with a male. This is the third year in a row and she produced 3 clutches so far. She double clutched the first time. And yes they are duds, no babies, just eggs.
