Aye Shaun that is interesting, been meaning to ask you is there a vet anywhere near you that specialises in reptiles/snakes ? I don't know if any around here do

Thank you for sharing that Shaun. I myself have never had to deal with any of those skin conditions before, so it is extremely helpful to see pictures, so i know what i'm looking for.

would be the closest to you,of the only 2 good reptile vets i would use in scotland.the others a guy in Perth mate

Yikes, that's a pretty grim set of pictures. Hope no one ever gets to that point!

I've gotten rescues with some of these issues. Food bites, scale rot, mouth rot.....it's not pretty. And it's even worse when it's on a WC rescue because you're having to acclimate them and take care of their medical needs. They stress easier than CB's IMO. Thankfully their issues weren't real extreme. Although their mite problems were.

Out of all the WC rescues I did, I only lost one. I think it was more of a stress related death than the issues it had.

My first snake, a BP, almost 20 years ago got a bit of scale rot or something from the poor way I was keeping him. I took him to a vet (lived near DC at the time so was able to go to a real herp vet) and he set me straight. I treated with betadine, got rid of the astroturf substrate and after a couple sheds he was in pretty good shape. That's the closest I hope ever to get to any of those pictures.

Still, it's a good link to share so folks can be aware of the possible consequences of mistakes.

I agree. And a nice reminder to those of us who've dealt with it before.

I just got finished feeding mine. Before I did I cleaned their tubs good and checked them over again, including putting their heads to my ears so I can listen for any popping noises. lol I may not have the prettiest set ups in the world but I'm really OCD about my animals and their homes. Since I've already been through alot of reptile issues when I kept in the past, I don't want to experience them again and probably go above and beyond now so I don't have to again.

I just checked them this morning but this thread had me really checking them over again lol
