New Animals

The animals I ordered finally came in yesterday.

Got a baby corn for a friend for his girlfriend's birthday. Sadly he took off with it before I had a chance to snap a pic. I'm going to try to get one out of him later. That snake is probably the tiniest baby I've ever seen!

I got this creepy crawly for a friend. He's been wanting one and since I was ordering my own animals, I offered to get him one. He was going to pay me for him when he picked him up today, but I told him Merry Late Christmas/Happy Early Birthday and to take that money and get his new pet some habitat stuff, mainly substrate. He's happy with it (not sexed) and promptly named it Poker lol. I'm glad he came and got it! I'm not fond of creepy crawlies and this one had me a little freaked out with it here. lol

For myself I've been wanting another Columbian RTB. I really loved the one I used to have (I rehomed it when my ball python passed). She's very sweet, doesn't mind being handled at all right now. But I'm still going to give her some time to get used to her surroundings. I haven't thought of a name for her but I'm sure I'll find one soon according to her personality



Last but not least..and she has already been named Nom Nom. I got a Cali King. As much as my old one (which I rehomed to a friend who loved him) intimidated me when I first got him, I missed his tail rattling huff and puffy-ness with no bite lol. He was definitely an interesting keep and one to interact with This one is already proving no difference, except she DOES bite! Haha! She was striking at everything that moved as soon as I got her out of her little bag. When I put her in her quarantine tub I had set aside for her I realized it was way too small. I left her alone for a little hoping she'd calm down some so I could move her to one she could stretch out in. I got that one set up and the boyfriend held her while I adjusted it a bit. She was really good with him, being a little curious and calm considering how she was earlier. It wasn't until he moved to put her in her new cage that she decided she didn't want to go, backtracked up his hand, turned around, and promptly bit his finger! She didn't let go but she didn't wrap either. He sat still waiting for her to let go. Instead she turned her head and tried to eat his finger! haha! She only got a little in, not passed the nail, and stopped. I tried spraying her with water, and water mixes and she either wouldn't or couldn't let go. We tried waiting her out but still no release. Slowly he managed to work his finger out of her mouth without hurting her. The bite didn't even leave a mark on him.

It's going to be interesting to see how their relationship develops. He didn't think he'd care the king, but she's really piqued his interest biting him like that

congrats on the new snakes. I am starting to love the tude with kings. I picked on up recently and he had yet to strike but I do enjoy the tail wagging. Your's is very pretty!

Kings are definitely interesting. They're active, curious, and willing to bite anything that gets in it's way! They can be antisocial and moody, but still handleable. Great eaters. Mine never missed a meal and I understand all this is typical of kings since I've only had one, I have no other to compare it to.

With her attitude she's a keeper! Can't wait to feed her. IMO, kings show the best hunts out of all the snakes I've had. This one will probably only be fed live since I never had any live feeding issues with my old one (like their prey trying to hurt them). I'm going to try to vary her diet with anoles and anything else I can find that's a normal diet for kings.

I wont give you the story about live feeding etc... you've probably heard it before... instead I'll show you a photo.



All it really takes is once... and the photos get WAY worse then that.

regarding varied diet... thats up to you but make sure that whatever you feed the snake, you have yearlong access to because snakes have a tendency to get hooked on something and refuse the rest.

I have three rescued ball pythons that are covered in scars. But that pic is just unhandleable.

I thought mine were bad. One has a scarred over nostil, and another a huge scar down his belly, not to mention little scars all over all three of them. That's horrible.

"Ribs" a skinny malnourished, dehydrated boy i picked up. He's the one with only one nostril. Just finished a rat, here, but he has trouble breathing sometimes when he gets upset. You can see a scar on his tail.


Here's Jasper, our 10 year old adoptee. Little scars all over, but here's one we suspect was from a rabbit.

The other that I have "just" has small scars.
I've watched a ball pythons scale get ripped off by a mouse while it was constricting it. Rodents can do a lot of damage in a very, very short time if the bite is off.

You have to be careful with some lizards, too when feeding snakes...some have claws that can rip a scale right off. Live isn't really necessary if you have a biter!

I'm very well aware of the risks of feeding live. I take precautions and watch when I feed. If they show no interests within a few minutes I take it out. I've had animals before that would only take live and never had an incident happen with them. Those pics posted are more than likely due to someone throwing live prey in and walking away. Thanks for the reminder though

The two new ones were being fed live and I'll continue for the first few feeding with me before I attempt to switch them to f/t. Our rainbow is still on live but I have started offering her each feeding day. She refuses so I go the next day for live. I never had any luck getting my last king to take f/t. If it wasn't running from him, he wasn't interested. lol

Anyway, here's a pic of my friend's albino corn I got him for his girlfriend. I can't believe how tiny he is! I don't think I've ever seen one so small before but he's definitely a looker!
