The "poop" club
OKay, I saw the bite club...but really but haven't noticed if there was a poop club. I know, I know, way less impressive. Today made me remember, however, that it does seem to happen. After all i was innocently holding our young female ball (Saphie) when i felt the tiny trickle...i freaked out, she paused, and then GUSHED all over me inside my shirt. Oh yes. Gushed. And when i finally got her unraveled from around my neck, and got the husband to help me remove the unsoiled clothing and i got into the shower, there was a poo so big sitting in my bra that I had to flush it *lmao* Okay so that is TMI, but let's face it...snakes poop, and you can't teach them to use the litter box.
So, how often have you been poo'd on? You know you're in the club.
Hubby joked about calling our baby jungle/coastal python "POMy"...Poops On Melissa...y" because she used to do it just about every time I held her. (she was scared..but we're over that now, mostly) Had the brazilian boa do it once as well. Blah.
Well???

Re: The "poop" club
This is the reason I don't handle my snakes for long periods of time or before they poop. I also don't hang them on my body. This way if one happens to let go it is only on my arm or hand. I did get crapped on by my corn once when he was just a little worm and it was nothing much at all. I simply washed my hands and it was all gone.

Re: The "poop" club
I would be more concerned by the fact you had it around your neck and had to "untangle it". You really shouldnt ever put any snake around your neck as the risks are too great for both you and the snake.

Re: The "poop" club
My little anery motley pooed on me 3 consecutive times that I tried to hold him Luckily he's tiny so there's wasn't a lot of poop.
None of my other babies have though.

Re: The "poop" club
lankyrob...just a turn of phrase. lol
it was more like i was holding my sweater tight to my body with both hands, and trying to keep the mess from spreading, so hubby had to just "get" the snake. I usually only let any of them crawl around when i'm sitting down, and she just happened to be halfway down the neck of my shirt!
Though, i have used the ol' bra as a nice hideyhole a few times. Nice and warm for a little one!
There's only one of our snakes that's really big enough to go around a neck and he doesn't like to be held.
I realize that snakes aren't cuddly pets, but these strains are fairly domesticated and all of mine are captive bred. Half of them don't even strike at their food, they just slide over, open their mouths, and eat *lol* they wouldn't know how to react in the wild. My point being, i don't see why you can't mimic their home environment with the exception of being held every now and then. The facts are, these particular snakes are pets...they have instincts, but they are muted.
The only other reason besides safety, and i don't see how it's not safe....to not hold a pet is if it's wild or you are trying to keep it's environment as much like the wild as possible...to which i don't see a need, since they are fairly domesticated.
I don't really see how you could have a snake around your neck and not know if it's going to fall off or something, and I don't see how it's a risk for the snake or the owner.
Back to the poo...I usually try to wait to hold'em until i know they've poo'd or i don't hold them too long. We had been gone, though, and i hadn't thought about it with her. Totally my fault...still gross!

Re: The "poop" club
My wife joined the poop club today. I had Scamper ( the 3fter which my wife considers hers.) swimming in the tub.when I picked him up to put him up my wife reached in for the plug. He fired right on her knuckles.

Re: The "poop" club
I came into my apartment today and saw that Kaybe (my adult bp) left me a biiiiiiiiiiig pile of poop. Sigh... I much more preferred it when he was little and would poop tiny poops more frequently rather than the big piles of poop he does now...
