Re: sexing pythons by the tail???????
Royals are fairly easy to sex visually if they're old enough (3 years or so). Males will have a rather distinct bulge where their equipment is, fairly large spurs and a longer tail than a female of the same size, whereas females won't have the bulge, will have relatively small spurs and a shorter tail by comparison.
This isn't the case with all boids. Carpet pythons are a good example of that - you simply cannot tell visually. Males and females can not only have the same sized spurs and tail lengths, but even probing them is unreliable, so most of the time the best way to sex a Carpet is to pop it as a freshly hatched baby. I don't recommend popping adult snakes of any species.
