New, just bought another snake :]

Hello all! I haven't had a snake since I was 15 (8 years ago), and I finally grabbed a ball python from Petco today. I'm super excited. My name is Mina, my ball is roughly a year old, and I'm looking forward to joining in on this forum. :]

Re: New, just bought another snake :]

My first snake was a boa constrictor. My dad wasn't fond of me having a snake in the house, though, and he pushed me to get rid of it. We gave it to a reptile enthusiast, but sadly, his house caught on fire and none of the animals made it. :[ I've felt bad about that for a while, but I've still wanted a few herps.

Here s/he is! We don't know the gender yet, so I'm thinking of a gender-neutral name. I really like the markings, I thought they were a little different than your typical normal ball (I know s/he's a normal, just saying it's neat).

Re: New, just bought another snake :]

I just fed the snake, so I'll wait a few days get more pictures/handling (also so s/he can get used to the new enclosure), however s/he is roughly two feet long, maybe a few inches under. The pet store said about a year, but I don't know how often they fed it. Looking online, it seems that maybe s/he's a bit younger than a year?

Re: New, just bought another snake :]

You might want to use a lower hide, that hide is a glorified mansion and will not really make it feel comfortable. Give it a hide where it can make contact with the walls and ceiling.

Re: New, just bought another snake :]

If s/he's closer to four months, that's great! The current tank is a 10Gal, I'll upgrade to rubbermaid as s/he grows, most likely, but I'm not sure how to keep those heated. *searches through forums*

Re: New, just bought another snake :]

Stephan, thanks! I have a smaller plastic bowl I can cut a piece out of for that purpose. S/he's using it now just fine, but after eating especially, I'm sure a smaller hide might be a welcome relief.
