Feeding Time for Sage

I just received my shipment of pinkies and I'm going to feed my baby corn snake Sage once one of them thaws. I'll make sure to get pics of his first feeding and I'll post them on this thread. Anyways I have a question. How and for how long do you thaw your feeders, specifically pinkies. Also, today I found out I have $160 dollars saved up. So hopefully I can make enough money by October so that I can get a Spider BP.

Re: Feeding Time for Sage

For a pinky, don't use hot water as it will cause them to explode. Luke warm water for 5 - 10 minutes should do the job.

Re: Feeding Time for Sage

As Stated above.. a few minutes in warm water is enough. I normally run the head under hot tap water for a second after its all thawed out so that my little guy wants it more.

Good luck on the BP purchase in October!

Re: Feeding Time for Sage

Dont buy a Spider BP, Im fairly disgusted with most of the major breeders who create those things.

Is the small amount of money really worth intentionally creating an animal that will be tortured with genetic problems for the entirety of its life? disgraceful.

Mixed Dogs dont get the Wobbles so bad they cant eat or walk in a semi straight line.

Its a problem specific to the Spider morph, I have no problems with other morphs of BP provided they dont have problems like this.

Feeding pictures! He didn't coil around it he just bit and worked it into his mouth. A snake eating has to be the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. Very fascinating!

I'm not familiar with the Spider morph I just like how it looks. What's wrong with how they breed it?

To get the Spider morph they have to break the genetics of the animal in a certain way that also causes it to have a neurological condition known as the Wobbles. Makes their heads shake back and forth constantly in bad cases. Also causes them to roll over and become unable to right themselves at times as well as stargazing.

This doesnt bother some people, but I cant justify it.

MOST spiders don't head wobble, some do. Its not specific to the spider, some other morphs also carry this.

Re: Feeding Time for Sage

My buddy had 6 of them, and only 1 female had a wobble, all of the females were related, the males were unrelated.

to be fair, the young man only asked how to properly thaw a pinkie.....

not get told its disgracefull to buy his next planned snake.

i'm not having a go,only suggesting imo a less agressive and more imformative approach may have been better, taking the members age into account (not trying to be cheeky )

i could explain about the neuro issue's in some jaguar pythons but if i remember correctly ALL spiders suffer from issues.where as only a few jags bred suffer any neuro's,so its not quite the same.

re thawing prey
i preffer to do it the same way as i thaw my own food, leave covered with paper towels on a tray overnight at room temperature.

imo less time required for a pinkie,it being so small it will defrost in 3 or 4 hours at room temperature

cheers shaun

Lol ya I diddent mean to derail the original topic, and I wasnt suggesting he was disgraceful, I was referring to people who breed them.

And the guy who posted above me already covered the pinky thing
