Red face Just a feeding thought

I have a pair of Texas rat snakes that are awesome eaters. out of all our snakes I have to say that these are the most fun to watch eat. But I have always wondered about and been tempted to try eggs. I hear that they eat them in "the wild" but am a bit nervous about trying anything different from the norm. I have to admit though it would be interesting to watch but will it do funky things to thier digestive systems? anyone ever try?

There is nothing wrong with trying, if they eat one they will be fine.
Do your research ahead of time and incubate them yourself.

Re: Just a feeding thought

Personally with a pet snake, I would be afraid of the jagged egg shell pieces in my snakes belly.

If they are on rodents, then stay on rodents.

I wouldn't deliberately feed them eggs, but for the first few hours at least, reptile eggs are like leather and shouldn't harm any reptile? Not that you should try.

Re: Just a feeding thought

nah I wouldnt think of reptile eggs I was thinking bird eggs :P Its just a thought Ive been tossin around in my head since they do eat them naturally so I hear, but have been too nervous to try since Im afraid it would mess with thier digestion... cleaning up after them sometimes can be bad enough just bein on rats...

Re: Just a feeding thought

Most snakes are not bird egg eaters, and even those that are sometimes die because of it.

My pine snake was being fed eggs before i got him...
STINKS to high heaven.
I wouldn't bother - keep 'em on the rodents.
