Is it safe to feed a snake in its shed

My pueblan milk snake is eating perfectly fine, but he is losing his color. Is it not safe to feed a snake while they are in shed, if so, why?

It's fine to feed them while in shed. Most snakes however will choose not to.

I have never seen a problem with it, about half my snakes will pig out just as much while in deep blue phase.

Re: Is it safe to feed a snake in its shed

all 4 of my snakes will eat anytime, whether there in shed or not.

if you do offer your snake some food and the snake doesnt eat it, then dont be put down as the snakes reverting to its primary instinct.

in the wild, a snake will become blind during there shedding process and therefore they will become vulnerable and as such, they will just hide away in safety until the process has finished.

they wont eat in the wild through out process of shedding for the reasons ive just mentioned.
so really its entirely your choice to whether or not you offer the food.

gd luck

Mine usually don't eat the day they shed, mostly because they are busy rubbing. They eat almost every other day of the process.

I had one eat and shed at the same time once. It was a little garter snake.

Garters are pretty much all you own :P (cept for the by and milk snakes + chomper?)

I second this motion.

To the O.P, it is not unsafe, but as mentioned some will choose not to eat because their sight is clouded.
My corn, ball python, and pine all eat whenever.
