Horrible shed
I was gone for two days almost, i didnt see him go into blue but i guess he did then he tried to shed and failed. so now he is taking a bath and i put his humid hide in there.

Any idea what the humidity is in Maynard's cage??
I used to see horrible sheds when I used aspen, when I switched to my coconut / Bark mix that holds humidity, I started to see complete one piece sheds.

no question, about 45% humidity and i use news paper for him, switching to a actual substrate in may. he hides a lot so i just never caught the blue phase and i was gone for the graying part and this is the result. He is getting a bath tomorrow too but its going to be longer then todays (about 20 min) and hopefully that takes care of it.

Humididty should be 55% minimum and upto 65-70% during shed, if you maintain it hgiher the next shed should be better

i usually spray during blue to help the humidity, where im at its extremely low humidity and i use news paper as said for substrate so that doesnt help, hopefully when he gets his new bedding it will be an easier thing to keep the humidity up.

oh and he usually has a humid hide 24/7 but i was told that it wasnt a good idea to do so he didnt have it either because yet again i never noticed blue. its kinda a bad round of circumstances but it happened so gotta fix it.

Whenever in the past If ever I had a bad shed, I just put them in a pillowcase soaked with luke warm water for about a half hour. When I go to check on them shed gone! The friction from them moving around in the sack while they are moist takes it right off.

Our ball python always had terrible sheds. It would just come off in pieces. This was in Florida, the humidity capitol of the country! Her cage was always at about 55 - 60% humidity. Now we are living in a desert and have increased her humidity level to 70% and now she sheds in one piece! AIt seems, at least in some species, a few percentage points in humidity can make all the difference.
I just checked out a bunch of online care sheets and only a few of them had humidity recommendations! Most said something along the lines of "keeping a proper humidity level is important for the ball python" but gave no parameters! Not very helpful to say the least. What I could find ranged between 50% to as high as 70-75%.
