Need help please!

Hi I got a GTP about 3 days ago .. My breeder told me hes been eating frozen pinkies. I tried to feed him today.. He didnt eat. all he did was pushed up against it he didn't really strike at it .. I know that u should leave him alone for a week at least .. But It's my concern that he's not eating temp and humity is normal around 87 daytime and 80 % . Any tip would help .. When I got my corns they ate the third day without even thinking.. I m just a little concern that he won't last long.. So please give me some tips on what to do .. Thanks

you're probably just being paranoid for no reason. if the temp and humidity is normal he'll eat when he's hungry.

do you know when he last ate? maybe you're feeding him too soon.
also maybe he doesn't want to eat because he's not used to his new home yet.

i know i m being paranoid..he ate last wedenday before he hot shipped out on thursday...then i got him on friday..he is a great looking guy.. but expensive i m just afraid that he wont make it.. i work in a pet store and i had seen so many pythons came in and wouldnt eat and got skinny and died.. i hope it will turn out right for me on my very first GTP....how do u guys feed your GTPs? i can hold my corn snakes in my hand with just give him the pinkies and they will take it from there..gently! corns are easy to feed

i do not own a gtp, but many people here do and can give great advice.
what i CAN tell you is you do not need to feed your snake if it just ate on wednesday. a baby snake should eat around every 5-7 days imo. i would also think if he was shipped he should DEFINETLY be allowed that week to calm down. being put in a box and shipped is without a doubt stressful.

yeah i understand that... i will let her rest first.. could not control meself lol hope he will eat next time i feed..what u told me is what i would tell my customers..but when it comes to my snakes i m just over reacting and concern lol even my co worker told me that i m just being paranoid lol

don't even try to feed for another week though forsure. if you keep trying to force food on a snake that doesn't want to eat it can get even more stressed out.

dont they come down from trees at night and go on hunt on floor bedding? mine is still on tree sleeping...maybe he is stessed out ..better just leave him alone huh?

As hard as it is yes hands off lol give em time to settle it'll be ok without food for quite some time so try not to worry.

Your temps sound about right, with the humidity do you keep it constant or is it on a cycle? In the wild dfuring the day the humidity will rise and fall. I spray my guy up to about 80% in the morning and evening but in between it drops to a low of about 60%. Constant high humidity can be as bad as no humidity at all.

With feeding they are best left on their perch with a nice hot food item coming at them from below - they will hang from their tail and eat upside down.

I feed my guy every 14 days - they are quite lazy snakes and prone to fat if fed too often.

You definitely dont want to hassle him too much - GTP;s are pretty much show snakes and some really do not take to handling at all, we literally did not touch our GTP from June 2010 when we got him until last week - the advice we were given is that they should be left alone until their colour changes.

I have a reptil fogger that I turn it on every morning for 5 10 mins and as well as evening so it should be fine for him . So what u mean is u remove the perch that hes on and feed him? Or u just feed in his cage? I tried to feed him last night and he went and smell and push up against it he opened his mouth for few times tried to eat it but he didn't.. He s on pinkies. This morning I woke up found him burried himself under the bedding? Why is that? Don't they usually stay on trees? Hope he is gonna be ok I ll check on him again when I get home tonight

like i said, he shouldn't be fed sooner then 5-7 days from each feed. i've also heard what rob was talking about from other people too, that they don't like to be handled.

Leave him in the cage and time your feeding for when he is out on a perch, he should feed hanging upside down so no risk of substrate or anything. They do often go onto the floor, it is a well known misconception that they are 100% arboreal, yes they spend ALOT of time on perches but they do cruise around the floor as well.

With feeding make sure the head of the prey is VERY HOT, use tongs and hold the prey by the nape of the neck and wiggle the head directly under the snake. You say he is on pinkies? Mice or rat? My guybwas about ten weeks old when i got him and at that point he was taking medium mice, they take HUGE prey for their size.

If he refuses to eat you can try leaving the prey on a plate under his favourite perch overnight, if he doesnt take it you will need to bin it in the morning. The more you hassle him with food tho the more stressed he will be, if he wont take it then leave him totally alone except for water changing for at least seven days before trying again.

Yes it is the same feeding I willleave him along and not hassal him more just let him get used to it first

ok finally i m home and able to check on him! he is now sitting on the perch away from the heat lamp..its night time now shouldnt he become active like moving around? well he is not ..to me he looks like he is still sleeping.. is it normal?do yours do that?my corns are just running around in their tanks having fun.. i m sorry maybe i m just over concern about him....

he is on F/T pinkies according to breeder told me.but i will leave him along a couple days and try to feed him again and hope that he will eat for me. i m a bit worry ....

i seriously do not understand why you are worrying so much. it's not super hard to just leave him alone and feed him in a week.
he is not a corn snake and will not act like one either.
