Well I woke up to a POP sound this am and quess what? My 75 gallon reptile tank cracked above the uth unit...Just great now what do I house my snake in until I can buil her a cage this weekend? I have a tote but it would not be big enough to give her warm/cool gradient.
Any Ideas would be greatly Appreciated!!! Jamie

You can find large sterilite type tubs for very cheaply. We found some that measure roughly 4' long, 2' wide and 18" tall at Costco for $8.00USD. I believe I've seen similar tubs at Walmart or K-mart (especially right now because they're trying to sell storage containers for everyone's holiday decorations.) They are clear so you don't have to worry about upsetting anyone's photoperiod or rigging up special lighting.
I'd think that would work well for temporary housing. We actually use ours for semi-permanent home for our large BRB. We use heat tape on a rheostat to provide a good temp gradient and it also holds humidity well.
Rubbermaid boxes are great. Just drill or melt a bunch of airholes and there you go.
BTW...what temp was your UTH at when it cracked the glass? Do you put a cold water dish on it?

The temp was 112 and nothing was moved overnight. But I did check on the crack and the glass felt alot hotter than 112. SO I will be switching thermometers(spelling wrong)today to another that I have. Thanks I will be going to Home Depot today to check out a Rubbermaid. Thanks to all Jamie

What species of snake are you keeping at 112? and where do you keep the thermometer?
I ask because I have seen some people place the thermometer on the wall of the tank which does not measure the temp of the floor where the snake is, which results in too hot of a temp on the floor.
Good luck

That was the temp under the substrate so I can have an idea what the UTH is doing. This is not the actual temp of the substrate. By the way I keep an BCI in this cage at 86-89 on the warm side and 76-80 on the cool side. With humidity at 68+%.

Sounds good to me...as long as he can't get down under the substrate to where it's too hot.
