Cool new from texas!

Hi I just bought my first ball python yesterday. He is a spider ball python, at least that's what they told me. I am looking for some tips on how to set up his cage. Right now all I have is a zilla heating pad, hiding rock, and water dish.
Thank you!
Tim

Re: new from texas!

Well hey there fellow Texan! Where you at in this large state of ours?

As for setup you need to have a "hot" side of the home and "cold" side. At least 2 hides, just big enough for the snake to be in. The more sides they can touch of the hide the more comfortable they feel. I would also suggest getting something the snake can climb on and hang from, pretty sure balls enjoy that. The under the tank heating pad you will need to get a dimmer for because it will make the glass VERY hot thus limiting the snake to the "cold" side of the home. You will want to get the temperature of the home a certain amount, but people that own balls can give you exacts. Same goes for size of home it will need, bedding and everything else.

Also give it a week before messing with it. Basically once you get the home setup you need to put it in there and leave it completely alone except for refilling water or cleaning up a poo. This gives the snake time to get used to its new environment. After a week you can feel free to feed it.

Born in Mississippi but not living in South Fort Worth How far apart are we? Who knows we might meet up at a random Tex Reptile convention or something.
