My JCP finally shed!

I finally got my first JCP in early October, and he hadn't shed at all until yesterday. I'm not sure how old he is, but he weighs about 30 grams or so I believe. I also finally settle on Leto for his name too.

I borrowed a DSLR camera (a Canon Rebel) and I've been going a bit crazy with the camera. He's been soaking in his water dish ever since he ate. His colors have definitely improved after the shed of course. Here are the pics (some taken with a macro lens and some with a regular lens):

They don't shed as often as other snakes, most of my snakes shed once a month like clockwork, but my JCP has only shed three or four times since may, all while growing from about the size of yours, to about 6 feet and an inch thick.

That a real looker. Bet he as some awesome color as he get bigger. From his looks and color i guess he under six months. Just wait every time he sheds he color will get brighter. Nice pic BTW.

This was the second time I've seen him go in his water bowl like this to soak, and both times it was right after he ate. This time he was in there for a good 2 hours or so, and was still in there when I got to bed, so I don't know how long he stayed in there during the night. He really didn't like all the flashes from me taking pictures, and he had started to leave the bowl a couple of times I think. When I paused with the pics, he decided to stay put, so he must really like it in there.

Noticed my JCP soaking in water for long periods of time. Early signs of mites. Keep an eye out for those buggers!

Thanks, I will keep my eyes open for them. How do snakes normally get mites? Can mites also become a problem for other reptiles? I also have a couple of chameleons, and I'd hate to see them all get mites!

mites are a problem for all reptiles mate, once their in they can potentially spread accross all the enclosures. Mostly mites come in through the substrate or from a new addition to the collection.

mites are easy to deal with if you catch them early. i got a mite product that you can spray one your snake and cleaned out all my enclosures with it and have not seen a problem since.

Nice looking Jungle, once it starts colouring up you,ll have a real stunner.Never hurt to check any snake for mites, but a lot of snakes like a soak, Jungles tend to enjoy a bit of humidity, as they do come from a rain forest region, so providing the temps are good, and the little guy or gal is free for mites no cause for concern.
