Re: red ear

I had one for quite a few years I really liked having her. We fed her the aquatic turtle food and then would buy her some feeder fish and let them swim around until she ate them. They are a nice animal. But I found the small ones grow up to be very nice and handle being held for short time to clean the tank and such after mine died I got another and it was just a few months old and twice the size or the one we had that was years old it tried to bite every time you touched it.

Re: red ear

i had 2 when i was a kid, they got to be around 6" and were very tame. you need 50 gallons per turtle to keep them. so you will need to get a minimum of 150 gallons. i went to the store and housed mine in one of those larger kiddy pools. can you post som pics plz i am considering getting a sawback some day. i have been doing some research for some time now, but im not sure yet lol their are so many reptiles i want but i dont want to fill up all my space so fast :P

Re: red ear

Freebody,

If you want to see some turtles, you should head to the Lost Lagoon, just outside of Stanley Park. There are often turtles basking in the summer months.

I talked to the local nature house, and apparently most of these are Red Eared Sliders which were released from pet owners who found out that turtles required a lot of maintenance and care.

Apparently they can even breed in this climate. This could become an invasive species.

I've seen other ponds in the Vancouver area overrun with turtles as well.

Re: red ear

When i was a kid i caught 2 red eared sliders at bear creek parks, its in surrey. I think i have been their but didnt manage to see any that day. ill have to go back with a camera and snap a few shots off. unfortunatly alot of owner didnth the red ear when it gets large, because it is one of the larger species and so realily availible in the pet trade when they are so small and cute looking, but when they get 6-7" its out with the old in with the new sadly. I should just go their and catch one. :P

Re: red ear

I think they might be free game, since they aren't natural to Canada.

Re: red ear

do you have one of those plat forms you stick onto the glass so your turtle can climb onto it and chill? it doesnt look like you have one, they will drown if you dont get one. they look great if its out of the picture
