Smile intro

hey guys im new to this site.. i have a female red tailed boa which is about 5 feet 5 inches. i joined this site because i have questions like the fact everyone says that the snakes enclosure must be at least 28 degrees Celsius. i have housed my snake in various places, currently in a homemade wood/glass cage, which is about 4.5 feet long, by about 2.5 feet wide, and about 1 and a half feet tall. the top is just mesh wiring though, and i have a florescent bulb for light, as well as a heat lamp on top. it is in the basement, so it is usually no more then 22 degrees. after i read up on temperatures, i was starting to get worried. my dad said she will be fine because she has been in the same cage for about 1 year now. i was wondering if it is necessary to change its living conditions. also i am starting to think about buying a male boa and breeding them, but im not sure how old the need to be and whether they need to be full grown and stuff. just a few things that i would like to know i will get some pictures up sooner or later.. sorry lol

Re: intro

Hello and welcome to the forum. Please give your snake some more heat. Most snakes need a hot spt around 30-33 degrees celcius to digest their food.

Hello and welcome. First off you want to up your heat lamp. Also if you cover up about haft of the mesh on top should help raise the temp up. As heat rises so most of your heat would be going right out the top. As far as breeding i believe RTB need to be a least 3 to 4 years old and over 5 feet.
