I tunes help please
Does anyone know enough about how I tunes works that they might be able to help me out a bit please? I`ve got my music library on my C drive which my computer doesn`t like at all. I moved it to a new drive I had put on, but I tunes "doesn`t work like that" apparently and now I`ve moved it, there`s no way to tell it where the library is! I can`t just move it back so I either need to redo what I`ve done "properly" There is a way to do it apparently. Or, and this sounds easier by far, remove Itunes from the computer all together, keeping the music library on an external hard drive and start again. This time putting the library in the new drive in the first place. I`d be very very grateful of some help with this, I`ve had it for ages and it`s never worked properly...

Re: I tunes help please
I too had a similar run in with I tunes.
If I remember correctly, I had to re-scan the whole library to get it synced up.
If it comes right down to it, Just reload the software and then point it to the new drive.

Re: I tunes help please
You should be able to just scan your computer for audio files. The only problem with that is itunes won't delete the old song names from your library. So you would have duplicates of all of your songs that you would have to manually go through and delete. The easiest and quickest way would be to completely remove itunes from your computer, including the folder in your program files, and then re install. Good Luck! I use Zune.

Re: I tunes help please
Cheers guys. Yeah it`s looking like I`ll have to reinstall. My only worry is that it won`t allow me to upload the music from my external hard drive when I start again. I suppose it should, I mean they`re just music files. I guess i`m just a bit nervous about dumping the lot and starting again. I`ve got to get it sorted though, I really miss being able to buy tunes....

Re: I tunes help please
Well that totally worked ! I spent an hour doing it but I had a pizza in front of me at one stage so mustn`t grumble lol I wish I`d been brave enough to do that ages ago really. I`ve bought an album to check it all works and it does. Sweet. I`m really chuffed that`s working finally! Now I can go about collecting the entire Eat static back catalogue....

file>add folder to library> "Feebo's Music file"
Should work, last resort i'd uninstall and then reinstall and as stated above import the music on the new hd. Best of luck!

Re: I tunes help please
Already done it dude. Importing wasn`t going to work because I`d moved the library and it was confusing itunes because of the rather stupid way it`s set up.... Working now though, horaaa!!

Even easier than reinstalling is deleting the itunes database file and rebuilding it.

Re: I tunes help please
Yeah Id heard that but Itunes can`t actualy be told where the new database is. I needed to move it from the Cdrive to the new and empty Edrive. There`s was no way I could move it and then tell Itunes where it was. I looked up all sorts on the net and it seems that it`s just set up in a bit of a silly way that it cant be told when you`ve moved the files. The thing is though, after all that reinstalling wasn`t ANY fuss at all! I just made sure I had all the music files on my external hardrive, deleted all the Itunes programs and files and then reinstalled them, making sure to put EVERYTHING in my new Edrive. Problem solved in the time it took to eat a lovely pizza full of home grown chillis

Re: I tunes help please
perhaps an offer of some of that pizza would have garnered more responses on this thread. Sounds delicious, I love me some fresh chillis.
