Calgary AB need feeder hamsters!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to see if anyone knew where to get live feeder hamsters in Calgary? Pisces Pet Emporium doesn't seem to have a consistent supply.

Thank you

Re: Calgary AB need feeder hamsters!

Are you talking about FT or live?
What are you feeding?
Sure it will not take other prey types such as Soft Furred/Natal Rats or mice either live or FT or FT Rats?
Are you talking about a few at a time or buying in bulk?
Places that sell live rodent prey in Calgary are PPE, Riverfront AQ, J&J Reptiles & Tanks-A-Lot.
Les from Snakesnax delivers weekly to Calgary & Tyrone from CDN Mouseman also delivers to Calgary at times.
There are lots of small time rodent breeders as well.
Not this weekend but next weekend Sept 25 & 26 is the TARAS (The Alberta Reptile & Amphibian Societies) Show & Sale & all the main breeders/suppliers etc. will be present, it is at the Malbourgh Community Centre located just behind (NE) of the Mall on the frontage road behind 36th st.
TARAS is the local site for more details & I would suggest posting a want ad there as well, Mark

Re: Calgary AB need feeder hamsters!

Thanks Mark that helps alot! I have tried feeding him frozen before and he didn't take it. Just gave me one of those "WTF is this?" looks. I have no problem feeding him mice but only if there are no hamsters or gerbils. I do think he'll have to eventually make the switch to FT once he's big enough?

Re: Calgary AB need feeder hamsters!

Big enough at hatching as far as that goes & the longer one feeds live the harder the switch.
Best way to switch is to not feed it anything for a good month or 2 & then offer it FT at night in its enclosure & to have it heated past 100F & give it a quick wiggle with the tongs & then leave it undisturbed (whether it grabbed it right off or not) & check back in a couple hours.
Most folks issues switching over is not allowing them to get hungry first.
If they are not hungry they will wait until they get what they "want" & refuse other items.
Skipping a few meals can be all it takes sometimes & will not harm them any to do so, Mark

Hello and welcome. Im just curious as to why you feed hamsters?? As they would be absolutley full of fat, i would suggest rabbits of the same size.
