What type of spider is it? pics
Curious what type of spider this is. It was found on Southern Vancouver Island BC, its a burrower, and its about the size of a nickle.
I can take bigger more detailed pics if it would help just let me know.

Cool thanx i will check it out. Do you have any idea what this one is? I htought it was a widow at first but its legs arent long enogh. it is a red-brown-purple on its butt, and it has white markings. It isnt a male widow either because it is just as big as any female ive ever seen. let me know what you think.

as for the first one i have no idea --- wild guess - a wolf spider .. again WILD guess!
and the second, the only thing I would tend to say is that the "butt" (commonly known as an abdomen) is very big wich would lead me to beleive you are correct when u say its a female .. I canalmost garantee you its not widow but then again who knows!

Will do. I had a feeling it may have been in the widow family (combfoots???). But yea definatly not a widow. Might have to break out the ol microscope

The first one actually looks like a trapdoor, big chunky legs. Probably not Stasimopus though. Especially since you say it burrows, does it have an open hole as an opening or a lid?

it seems to just cover the whole ground with web then hide underground. aside from when i took pics ive never seen it out of its "den" even at night.

I agree Vanan, it does look like a trapdoor.
I thought all trapdoors were old world? Can anyone shed some light on this?
