Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

Ok, so this girl I know has a motley corn snake, he recently had a perfect shed and was fed his fuzzies 2 days ago. Yesterday when she came home from work he was a blueish/purle color and wasn't acting his normal self. What could this be??

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

How old is the snake? I have had younger snakes, or snakes who have recently been moved to a larger prey item, complete one shed cycle and start shedding again almost immediately (like within a week). That is what I would bet it is. Either that or severe dehydration...what have the temps and humidity been like in the snake's cage?

I was about to say what Kim said.... I have seen snakes shed and then shed again shortly after.

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

Right after his shed 4 days ago she feed him 5 fuzzies,
He is 2 years old, but very tiny for his age, thats why she feeds him fuzzies.
He was like the runt of the clutch. head is only the size of a nickle.
The day after he ate the fuzzies his whole body pattern turned a different color, not his eyes.
He drinks from a water dish with no problem.I'm still waiting for her to e-mail me the pictures of him now. I'll find out more about his enclosure and temps.

At two years old, that is definitely waaayyy too small. No wonder he is shedding so often. How often does she feed him? At this point, it should be once a week and try to get him up to hoppers (he should be able to take them). That snake needs to grow and he will shed very often until he reaches his adult size.

She feeds him every 2 weeks (5 fuzzies). I was unable to get ahold of her but I'm trying to get more info on the situation and a picture of him now.

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

i feed every 7 to 10 days.5 fuzzy's at 2 years old will not give your friends snake the nourishment it needs.she should move it up a few food sizes.also feed every 7 days at first then once its put on a bit of wieght feed every 10 to 14 days.have you any pictures you could show us.one with something in it that would give us something to compare it to size wise.like a sky tv remote control, something like that.
cheers shaun

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

I guess Ill be the one to ask. Whats wrong with a single appropriately sized food item? Whats with the 5 fuzzies? If he/she is eating five fuzzies in one sitting he/she needs a larger food item.

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

I agree derek. If it is taking 5 fuzzies, it should be able to take a rat hopper or a small adult mouse.

Re: Motley Corn turned Blue/Purple????

I think that alot of people don't realize the size of food a snake can eat. They have small heads and small looking mouths. Friends of mine that watch my snakes eat seriously do not believe that they will be able to eat the food. I think that the number one mistake made by people ( as in the average person that keeps one snake as a pet ) is feeding too small of a meal.
