HELP!!!!- Carpet python escaped

My five ft. carpet python escaped his cage - I'm pretty sure - while I was bringing in cages that I was cleaning from the backyard. I must have accidentally opened the door to his cage when I moved it and now I cant find it. I looked all over the house and the backyard with no luck. I took out a frozen rat with the hopes of enticing him back since hes long overdue for a feed. I'm nervous that he went out the back door while I had it propped open and now that its dark I'll never find him until a local news report shows some kid getting bitten or holding my python. Any suggestions? Please help. I've spent over an hour looking for him with no luck. I have to turn in soon and wont be home most of the day tomorrow. Anyone have advice? I've searched pretty much everywhere it could be in the house with a couple of exceptions that I will search now but am very worried that it made it outside.

Re: HELP!!!!- Carpet python escaped

Hmm just make up a feed box with a heat pad or hot water bottle in your house. Place a rat in the box and hopefully he will go in there tonight for you. If he has gone outside you could try doing the same thing, but you would be very lucky to get him back once he's outside. I wish you the best of luck and truely hope you get your python back!!!

Re: HELP!!!!- Carpet python escaped

When our corn escaped recently we were sure he had gone outside as we had searched "everywhere" - he turned up a couple of days later still in the house - we still dont know where he was hiding.

Re: HELP!!!!- Carpet python escaped

Did you have the snake outside in the cage while you were cleaning it? Or did you take the snake out before you took the cage outside to clean it? If the carpet escaped in your house, being 5 feet long, I imagine you will find him. However, if he escaped outside, he is most likely long gone. I clean all my cages indoors, and if I need to take something outside, I always put the snake in a secure Sterilite container while its home is being cleaned. I hope you find him; it is terrifying when they escape. Best of luck.

Re: HELP!!!!- Carpet python escaped

id try what percey suggests.re outside id put a live rat in a ventilated box (like a small faunarium).id then place that box inside another bigger box (like a large rub).my theory is if hes around your garden then he might smell the rat and head into the bigger box to try and get the food.id make the opening on the larger box in the same way as you make bottle traps for snakes.that way he will get in but has no chance of getting back out.theres also no worries of the rat having a bite at him as it will be in a different box within the bigger one.if possible id use see through boxes so the snake gets the smell then the visual of its prey.

all the best in finding him.you'd be surprized at how small a space a 5 footer can tuck away in.with a bit of luck you'll find him when you fling back the quilt as you go to bed

let us know if you find him,i'll have my fingers crossed for you.

cheers shaun
