What a wonderful organization they are.

Risking life and limb to protect the animals of the seas.

KUDOS to these brave souls who use whatever means necessary to stop illegal whaling and fishing under the harshest of conditions.

Re: seashepherd.org

Some people call them ecological terrorists. I say, if they were ecological terrorists, they'd blow up that giant freaking japanese whale slaughtering factory ship before it gets to the whale preserve (if any members of sea shepherd ever read this, consider that a massive "HINT HINT!").

I seriously considered joining them when I heard about them, years ago. It's nice to see an animal rights group that does something more than stage protests and euthanize animals (*cough*peta*cough*).

Re: seashepherd.org

Some of the following footage is disturbing, It's rather hard to watch without getting emotional.

Not only are the Japanese slaughtering whales, they rammed into the conservationists boat!

Re: seashepherd.org

if you're into that show, rent or buy the movie "The Cove" about the japanese slaughter of dolphins, it's a very very emotional documentary.

Re: seashepherd.org

lol, i was astonished when they proved that Japan was the only country which still practiced whaling and the slaughter of bottlenose dolphins, and was also the only that fought for their right to do it. The documentary was made from the man ( Ric O'barry) who trained the 3 original dolphins which played flipper in the 60's or 70's. Hes been an activist ever since as he firmly believes that dolphins and most cetaceans are smarter than humans. One of the original dolphin "Kathy" actually committed suicide because she was so depressed from being in a tank. He said that he believes this because every breath is a conscious decision for a bottlenose and she refused to come up for air... he also pretty much started the entire publics fascination with dolphins and kicks himself for it every day.

Also the Japanese government allowed the sale of dolphin meat for consumption when its mercury content was at least 10x higher then the legal amount in any other form of food.

When you see a country flat out refuse to stop the slaughter and torture of animals like that is disgusting it does hit you emotionally.

Wayne if you could embed this somehow that would be great!

the shot at the end when the water turns red is a real shot btw taken from an underwater camera they placed before the slaughter of the dolphins began. its all blood...

Re: seashepherd.org

I guess it's all a matter of viewpoint folks.

The people of India probably despise us for our consumption of beef.

The real point at hand is that Whales are vanishing from our oceans, they are threatened with extinction, yet the Japanese have fleets of ships in the antarctic ocean harpooning them every day.

They take a long time to reach maturity & only deliver one calf at a time, therefore they take a long time to replenish. Taking a dozen whales from a dwindling population takes forever for nature to replace them.

Certainly there are alternative sources for food.

Re: seashepherd.org

sad but true. although this might be the least of our worries with the said oil spill.... when will we as humanity learn that $ is not what life is about and we better get are priorities together before we can turn back to correct the problems we cause.

Re: seashepherd.org

I may be a cynic but I think humanity as a whole has already crossed the point of no return.

Even as I type this on my computer, I would love to live in a cabin with no utilities, no cars, nothing but my family and a garden.

The situation in the Gulf is hard for me to even talk about.
