Hello!

Hi everyone!

I am obviously new here, otherwise i wouldn't be posting here :P

I am just starting to get into herps, and am dutifully reseaching everything I can before taking the pluge and getting one.

My plan is to get either a Russian or a Greek Tortoise, as both breeds seem to suit my current life style.

I figured this would be a good place to get some more candid information on torts, so I shall be lurking around.

Nice to "meet" everyone

Re: Hello!

heyo,

i really like tortoises, they're so expensive here in Canada though and most pet stores don't really take great care of them unfortunately, i've always wanted a sulcata, but they get pretty biggggg lol

Re: Hello!

When a tortoise matches your lifestyle, it's time to start considering a gym membership!

Yes they do! But they are sooo awesome!! I wish i could have a sulcata, but i have nowhere near enough room to keep one happy.

I am in Ontario, and am keeping an eye out price wise. A breeder from QC has some hatchlings for $400, but i have NO idea if that is super expensive (sounds like it to me).

A friend of mine is keeping an eye out among her herp. friends to see if anyone has hatchlings or is trying to get rid of a Greek or Russian Tort so that I may be able to adopt it (provided a healthy checkup :P). I have yet to venture to any pet store ( i am a bit jaded towards them), but if i hear anything good about one, i may go check it out. There is a reptile rescue group where I live, but I am not sure if they deal with Torts. I know that they won't rehome turtles, due to the high re-release rate and people just bringing them back, but perhaps they will do it with torts. Shall have to check it out.

Thanks for all the welcomes guys!

(Think a tort will walk on a REALLY slow moving treadmill beside me if i get off my butt and go to the gym??? :P )
