BHB Reptiles

I was not sure if I saw this in one of the threads here or not. From what I'm understanding there are some upcoming shows and some reputable dealers are saying that they won't come if BHB reptiles shows up at said shows. Now I was wondering if anyone has heard why all the fuss about BHB and what they think about it? Personally think it is B.S.that if true dealers are now delegating who can come and who can not at shows. Maybe they are afraid of competition but I always thought competition was a good thing.

Re: BHB Reptiles

Wow that is news to me. I thought BHB reps was pretty respected. I watch their shows and can't say they are all that great but i like the first couple mins of each show until they start doing stupid game shows or something. anyways maybe they are just too big and undercut some of the competition.

Re: BHB Reptiles

Seeings how you don't know about what which to you refer I can fill you in.
This fall is the first ever Canadian Breeders Expo in Toronto.
This show was set up with the intentions of having an exclusively CDN show with only CDN breeders selling CDN bred stock (or so folks thought).
Brain from BHB is now not only attending as a speaker (which is fine) but is vending at the event now too (thus the issues).
So the "beef" with some of the CDN breeders that are planning are attending is that it WAS to be an exclusively CDN show for CDN breeders & CDN stock & now they have one of the largest US producers there is attending & vending at the show, which some feel they have been "wronged" by the promoters of it allowing this to happen.
Promoter being Grant Crossman - Port Credit Pet Centre aka Reptiles Canada.
Anyways thats the just of it. It has nothing personally to do with Brian or BHB really just folks upset of the entire "CDN content" thing that was somewhat promoted & maybe even assumed by some folks that plan on attending.
Thats what all the fuss is about.
Some breeders are trying to "dictate" who attends shows in other parts of the country as well, trying the old "I'm not coming if so & so is going to be there" type attitudes.
Personally if it was to be a CDN only show maybe they should have kept it that way BUT that is up to the folks running the show NOT the vendors to decide.
As for other shows I think whomever books tables should be allowed to come, none of this having other vendors getting folks "banned" due to their own personal preferences etc.
If its a privately run show sure the person in charge makes the final call, but I'm not a big fan of "banning" folks from coming just because others do not like them etc. Mark

Re: BHB Reptiles

It's Grant's thing and he is welcome to have anyone who wants to vendor, be a vendor. I'm sure he attempted to keep it entirely CDN but really, a lot of people up here say they will get a table but then back out, or say it cost too much. Besides allowing Brian to vendor here may simply be one of the things that helped Brian decide to come up here.

Mark do you remember the "All about pets" show? It was supposed to be an "exotics only" show but Grant had to add other vendors in because there wasn't enough interest with just the exotics.

Re: BHB Reptiles

C'mon Mykee...You know you waaaanna

Personally, I think that BHB coming is a good thing (as an attendee). I am more interested in SEEING his stock and talking to him than buying, I will still most likely be buying from CDN vendors unless I see something totally takes the cake. Just because BHB is a big US dealer, doesn't mean his stock is necessarily better. I think it will encourage more people to come to the show which can in turn provide the CDN vendors with more potential buyers. I also don't think he is coming to try to undercut CDN prices, he needs to cover his own costs etc..plus I am pretty sure he said he would price match. I think it is a great opportunity form those who want to buy US stock to do it, and to talk to a HUGE breeder and wholesaler.
I fully understand the concern and what some people were saying on RC, that is is no longer a 'Canadian Reptile Breeder's expo', being an expo comprised of solely CDN vendors. I'm not totally sure where I sit on this particular issue but Grant has gone above and beyond for us and the hobby so I trust him to do what he sees fit.

Regardless, I am SO damn excited for this expo. I don't care about all the negativity, it's going to be AWESOME.

Re: BHB Reptiles

I'd like to hear from you Mykee as a Canadian breeder. Although you don't vendor at the shows it's still a valuable opinion and view.

I'm going to miss this show most likely. It falls on the same weekend as the final weekend for TIFF and that's a serious week for my work.
