How wonderful! It looks like a perfect shed, too--what a nice souvenir!

Probably a ratsnake of some sort, or an eastern milksnake. Nice shed- I love snake skins.

Re: Hey just found a skin

Ummm . . . the milk snake is New World only, so it couldn't be that. Are there any rat snakes in Australia? If Richard Shine's text, "Australian Snakes" is complete, then there are no rat snakes there either.

I'll bet Alnray is correct that the shed is from either a king brown or a taipan.

Re: Hey just found a skin

I would lean towards the brown if not a more harmless snakes skin. Hey but better the skin than the owner of the skin, especially if it is one of those 2 killers.

Re: Hey just found a skin

How gorgeous! I once had the wonderful experience of having a wild corn snake shed right in my hands; it was amazing. He started by rubbing his chin into the palm of my hand, just like my cat does. I didn't realize what he was doing until his markings started to blur. He went through the whole process, using my hands for friction.

Not something I would recommend with a king brown or taipan. Finding the perfect shed is cool enough!!

LOL- OMG, I must have been seriously sleep-deprived when I answered that- for some reason I missed that you were in Australia....Wow- dummy me. I know none of the snakes I mentioned would be in Australia. Disregard my last post.

Re: Hey just found a skin

hi all i just got a response from some where els this is what thay think

"Well you can knock out that it is in the family of Blind Snakes, Pythons, File Snake and Colubrid snakes it is deffinatly in the Elapid family, but there are soo many elapids around that area it would be a stab in the dark but i was thinking maybe the (Cacophis) family which is 3 snakes in your area just based on the Head shape, maybe as you said the Mulga Snake (Pseudechis Australis) sorry i couldn't give you a deffinate answer it is really hard to tell a snake by it's skin, Thanks Tim."

thanks for all the posts guys
