BP problem :(

ok guys, my BP is doing great, shes ate 3 times and is very very nice. everything is excellent, the ONLY THING IS...

when she is chilling in her cage and like she sees me, she will get really scared and skiddish... once i stand there a while she will calm down and relax..... AM i just startling her? or what????

also i knoww this is under python but my kenyan sand boa is being sort of bitchy again... she just ate last week, ( i feed her 3 frozen rat pups every 2 weeks ) and when i went to get her out she was very snappy.. usually she just sits there and lets me pick her up? thanks for the help guys!!!

Re: BP problem :(

Hey i wouldn't wory about you bp if she is eating fine.
Probobaly just settling in. Does she have a hide that she uses? If she is in the open when you go near the tank it's most likely just panick incase it is a predator approaching.
Has there been any changes in your boas enviroment at all? I have heard other species of snakes get a little snappy around breeding season? Not to sure to be honest Could it just be a greedy snake. My burmese looks for food pretty much all the time though hasn't bitten ......yet.

Yup, shes just getting used to her. If you have time try handling her for...like 15-20 minutes each day atleast, Dont take her out for prolonged time as if she is a bit scared she will get a little stressed out. Shes fine though, worst thing possible is shes a scaredie snake. (snakes are like people in the fact that all have their own personality and way of acting) - Hunter

Regardless of how much people want their reptiles to have emotions like a puppy dog or a kitty cat, they do not. To a ball python, you are a threat; competition for food, or to make them your meal. They are skittish because they are afraid. No amount of handling or rubbing it's belly will "tame" your ball python.

Re: BP problem :(

ball pythons got their name for being skittish so it is nothing to worry about. as long as it isnt biting you just move slowly dont make sudden movements. that is really the only advice i can give. i hope it helps some

Re: BP problem :(

your welcome! i am glad i could help. ball pythons are very timid and shy by nature. u get the few screw balls that can be very aggresive like with any animal in the world. ball pythons were named for going into a ball when they get spooked easily. i handle mine every day since i got him as a baby. he is one and a half now and i know his personality really well. my snake is very tolerant and i know what i can and cant do with him so i dont trigger and attack. it is something that you learn over time through trail and error. so just handle ur snake regularly and slowly he will get more used to you just walking in and stuff like that. it isnt something to lose sleep over though. just let him get used to you and start out slow at first. he will come around (not guaranteed) but most likely. so just give him some time to get more used to you and being handled!
