pink zebra beauty

I was looking at getting a tarantula, and a bred I was looking at was the pink zebra beauty. I am trying to find out how long they live. and i wasnt sure if tarantulas needed heat lamps

It all depends on species of T and the ambient temperature of your home. Some enjoy warmer temps, some prefer cooler. Whether or not the pink zebra beauties do, I can't help you there as I know virtually nothing about that ssp.

Hi cales, I am also looking at getting a tarantula so I may be able to help you out.

The pink zebra beauty is a great starter Tarantula. The spider needs a daytime temp of 75 to 80 F so how you achieve this is up to you. It is not that high so a warmer room than normal may work well.

As for their longevity, I am not sure but have noted at least 15 years for most species.

I am sure some more experienced keepers can help you out.

Their lifespan is directly related to their sex. Males live anywhere between 3-5 years and females 15-25 years depending on the species, some are even rumored to live up to 30 years of age.

If you want to be guaranteed a certain sex, you will have to buy sub-adult, 2 to 3" legspan. It is at this stage that you can differentiate between the sexes. To be able to tell for yourself here are two general differences between the sexes in tarantulas:

Abdomen: The female's is rounder and plumper
Pedipalps (the two front little legs): The male's have rounded almost bulbous tips, somewhat like the end of a Q-Tip, females have pedipalps that end off exactly like their other legs.

As for PZB tarantulas... they are one of the easiest to keep of them all. They are quite a docile species and are very forgiving for temp and humidity requirements.

I keep a huge collection of tarantulas and there isnt a single species that hasnt thrived at room temperature. I wouldnt worry about it too much... if you are dead set on wanting to heat then I would go with a side tank heat pad.

Tarantulas HATE light.
