finally some panther hatchlings

Yesterday three came out finally.

I have them in small containers with paper towel on the bottom with some sticks. Put 1/16 crix in but have not seen any eating.
Any suggestions for an alternative substrate for the bottom of the container?
Would anyone advise against crix as opposed to fruitflies?

I never use any substrate for baby chameleons (including a paper towel). I keep them in small groups in 10 gallon aquariums with screen lids and a florescent UV light over them. If I need more light to get the temperature of the cage up to the mid 80's then I add some nore regular florescents. I rarely use a basking bulb for them since their bodies are small and easy to overheat and dehydrate. (Of course, there are branches in the cages too.)

If the temperature is too cool they might not eat. If they are not getting enough water they might not eat.

If the size of the crickets you are offering them is too big, they might not eat. The crickets should only be of a size that would fit comfortably into their mouths. (Don't forget to gutload your insects too.)

I have raised quite a few baby panther chameleons into adulthood starting them off with crickets as the main food. I hate having to raise fruit flies and they aren't always easy to find at the stores.

Hope this helps!
