weird mouse story
has this happen to any one else?
i decided to atempt breeding mice, after a while of keeping them all together i fed 2 off and kept 2 females, one i knew was pregnant. the one finally had her babies but the other female was bothering her. she would take the babies away and they would fight, the mother would end up killing and eating the babies. so i took the one out that didnt have the babies and put her in a wire cage. the bars are very small and the cage is meant for mice and gerbils so i knew shed be ok in there...but she wasnt. the next day she was gone. i was pretty scared because i had a mouse lose in my house that was probably pregnant.
but i found her...in my female rats cage! i kept thinking...how did she get there?! some one had to put her there and i know I didnt because i know mice and rats dont get along. though her and the 2 female rats were doing just fine so i left her in there to move later on.
i was sure she hadnt escaped from the cage because why would she be in another cage? some one had to do it right? well when i got home from work she was in the cage next to them...in the boy rats cage and they were geting along just as well! all 3 heads were peaking out of their little plastic igloo. i took her out right away before any thing did happen and put her back with the other mouse, hoping they would get along because i had no where else to put her. right away they were screaming and fighting so i took her out again...
i looked around and had no place to put her sence she was some how escaping the cages that all had the same sized bars and couldnt hold her. so she was fed off to one of my critters. yeah sorry it didnt end in a good happy way, it did for the monitor though =)
moral of the story...DONT TRUST MICE!

If you want to figure out if a cage will hold a mouse look at the size of the skull.
If it can get the skull through the hole, the rest of the body will follow.
They can get through the tiniest spaces, it's ridiculous

actually i didnt know that, thanks for the info. i kinda figured with her belly being so big she wouldnt be able to squeeze out of those bars. it didnt even look like her head would squeeze out but she was just going through cages as she pleased.

I've never heard of a teleporting mouse before. Interesting story and your monitor even got a burp out of it.
When I was a kid I had a pet mouse that would get out of her cage then wake my mother up to let her back in later. Mom wasn't afraid of my little varmits

well thats good your mom wasnt afraid of then, i live with my grandparents and my grandmother hates just about every thing i own especialy the snakes and the rodents (the ferrets as well). she would have been pretty upset if that mouse was loose in the house. thank goodness the weird little girl decided to go live with rats, i still quite dont understand why she did that other than for the food and water but also why the rats got along with her fine.
these rat cages werent very easy for her to access either. her cage was on a small table, she had to climb off of that, crawl across the floor a couple feet then climb a 3 foot tall chinchilla cage. for her talents and being so different i still kinda feel bad she ended up as food but i think that was going to happen eventually.
