baby snapper

i have a young snapping turtle, has about a 3 inch shell. very healthy and every thing but i no longer want him. i was going to sell him but i am quite atached to him and would worry my butt off about who took him. would he servive in the wild if i let him go? its definetly warm enough here for him to do good i'm just worried because people say you can't let things go back into the wild.

Why do you not want him?

Thing is, when you release an animal back into the wild you may also be introducing pathogens (especially if it's indeed sick) that wild turtles are not fit to withstand, as well as any other animal. Cases like this has happened. The other thing is, it's basically illegal in any place to release animals into the wild without proper notification allowing you too; There are other reasons as well, but these are the two main ones.

Just give him to someone you know will care for it, it'll fare better that way,
Zane

i have too many pets right now and i'm geting rid of as many as i can (most i'm way too atached to) i dont think i'll have room for him when hes big. he was given to me by my uncle who couldn't care for him any longer and wasn't doing a good job in the first place.

i have been looking for a new home for him for months now but i supose i'll just keep looking if puting him back in the wild may do damage.
