Fed Ex
How many of you are Fed Ex certified to ship live reptiles? I've been shipping thru Fed Ex for years and never had a problem, but decided to get certified and make it all legal and what not. I printed this form http://fedex.com/us/services/pdf/PK...tion.pdf?link=4 and shipped my package (box in box) to the Packaging design & development facility. Should get back the approved green light next week and then I'm supposed to get my waiver and that should be it.
Have you guys had any issues with the certification? Positive or Negative?
Have you had any hassles?

Come on guys, is there a reason why Canadians can't ship live animals via any of these companies?

No live animal shipments. From what I've read over the years, too many animals end up making it to their destination dead as it is. Maybe up here, Fed-Ex UPS, etc. realize that they're not as reliable as they once thought....
Air freight works great for me though, guaranteed delivery time, much shorter transport makes for less chance of a mishap.

Over here there is no guarantee from any of them. And it is only recent that Fed Ex has allowed shipments of live harmless reptiles for certified shippers. Are you sure it is not the same in Canada? To become certified you must sign away all rights to claims!! But it has become the only way to ship outside of airports at least within policy of somewhat. The certification still states business to business deliveries, those that are considered home based business are OK.
How many of your customers are willing to pay those high prices of airport shipping?
I understand the guy who is buying a $1000 or $10,000 snake won't complain about it, but the guy who is buying a $25.00 corn or $150 boa isn't going to want to pay $70.00 to ship.

No we dont
I have never had a problem with shipping with Fed Ex in the US. I once shipped a package containing aquarium fish far into Canada, they were well aware of what was with in the package though didnt seem to mind.

Guess that weeds out the serious buyers. I personally feel more comfortable shipping with a carrier that will take responsibility for the death of an animal if they are at fault (insurance). If FedEx offers courier service to anyone willing to sign away any responsibilities for the welfare of the animal, I'm glad they don't offer service in Canada, and if they did, I would not purchase from a breeder who was willing to sign it away to save a couple extra bucks on shipping. I like the way we have it up here, as both a breeder (shipper) and buyer.

Many places gaurantee their animals and use couriers, I wouldn't expect they would be willing to accept responsibility if the carrier screwed up. The airport isnt' as bad if the shipper pays the shipping at their end, of course it is the buyer who should have already paid that up front to the seller. If it is sent COD they practically double the shipping charge.

Nita, whether the shipper pays beforehand at his end, or if the receiver pays at his end the price is the same. Always, every time. Where exactly did you hear that the shipping price is doubled if it's a COD?

DONE!!!
I got my package approval back from the Fed Ex testing facility last night. This morning after speaking to my Fed Ex rep he faxed me my waiver (2 pages), read it, signed it and faxed it back!
The whole thing took less than 2 weeks and went extremely smooth!
