Cancun!!!
I got a call from my father about 1 week ago, complete shock to me cause our relationship hasn't been the best in the past 6-7 years. Anyway he wants to take my boyfriend and myself to Cancun in December. Of course i said YES who would turn down a trip to Cancun, you would be nuts if you did. (lol) I've never been out of the country so it's going to be a great time i'll never forget. So i wanted to add a little "extra" to my trip. My father plans on taking us on a hike to see the ruins i figured this would be my best chance to do a little "sight seeing" of my own.
Does anyone know any GOOD field guides to get, I have my eye on a few but would like some input on the best books so i don't waste too much money on something for one trip?
Thanks and when i go i plan on taking TONS of photos.
Jamie
Edit-- I would also like a book with the "hots" seeing i don't want a trip to a hospital.

DREWLOWE:
Contact me via PM or MSN Messenger on this.
I went to Cancun in December 1999 - January 2000, it was a blast for 3 weeks there. My main interest was the Mayan Ruins, we got to see all of them and still enjoy the regular tourist thing with great hotel service, the white sand beaches, culture aside from the American atmosphere, foods, clubs and much more. Was very hard to go back to the airport on our last day "sniff sniff" we did not want it to end. Overall Canacun can meet your vacation needs. Any hotel you settle in has early morning new guest meeting with all there services and a joining hotels in the area, including all the extras that make a trip fun.
When we were there we did the ruins, shopping outside of Cancun where you don' t have to bargain shop because the people make alot of things where 1 - 5 dollars can buy alot of really nice stuff. Although the tourists buses to get you to the ruins warn you not to shop with the natives, only reason we found out was they will drive you to a safe zone area where you get a great meal included in the tour and pay 20 - 50 dollars for the same things you can get cheaper. So kkep eyes open the natives know your coming have the money ready and shop like crazy before the bus driver warns you, lol.
Other things we did were scuba diving in a coral region, deep sea fishing where we got marlin and shark. If you do your research you can get a real nice deal on the fishing because the boat likes to keep the fish after for local resturants and this means a free meal for you as well so inquire on it. We did parasailing usually a 20 mile stretch that lasts about 15 - 25 minutes. There is also a major bonus I forget the hotel name now but once your there you will hear about it. In simple if you like to eat and get a serious bargin make sure to find out about this hotel. Your hotel with shuttle you to it anyday free service, pay $20 American and enjoy food and drinks all day all night from 8 chefs making food that is native to cultures, as well as American, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Spanish and the desserts will blow your mind. That' s right $20 dollars feast for 24 hours if you wish, plus this is the only hotel with 5 swimming pools so it won' t be hard to find. Although you must register at your hotel to get the deal. And I believe once you leave this hot hotel you have to pay another $20 again. So fill up before leaving, lol.
Clubs, if I remember right there were 9 to choose from and a few are very well know for spring breakers and so on. Clubs like Coco Bongo, Dady Os, Fat Tuesday, Xtreme....lots more and the link below shows the rest.
http://www.cancunvista.com/nightclub...ightclubs.html
The best are Coco Bongo and Senoir Frogs, lots of choices lots of styles of music, but get ready for another deal, some clubs for $20 American again give your drinks all night for that $20 braclet.
So you can' t get bored in Cancun, your hotel will set you up fine just make the morning meeting and things go smooth. Travel is easy as well in Cancun. Take the bus super fast super regular. I mean fast these guys are not your average bus driver who has 8 hours to drive these guys are grand prix drivers so you can easily travel the main road in 20 minutes all around Cancun.
So enjoy the trip, oh yeah can I come with you as you can see I miss that place
Tony
EDIT: Only thing I regret was not having a digital camera at the time was using old film style
I bought this from a native, was better and cheaper that a local store at 5 times the price.

Thank you Tony for all that info.
My father and a few aunts and uncles go down there every year for the past 7 years or so. I'm definatly going parasailing, and scuba diving, but now that i see what you've done i'm going to add a few more to my list.
I just hope this year hurries up cause i'm so excited!!!

Thanks for the help understanding photoshop. I can finally make better looking text, only 1000000 more things to try with the program to really make photos appear better. So far its simple graphic text, still tickering with all the layer options to make nice text

The more you play around with it the easier and quicker you'll get at it. You'll also do stuff by mistake and learn a whole lot through that

I found this site very helpful for making your own great looking text. So many to choose from and once you get the hang of it you won't have to look at the tutorials anymore because you can just make your own.

JAMIE:
Its alot of fun, if you plan on what you want to do and see before getting there that is the 1st step. Once there ask the hotel, they can help on just about everything. There are alot of signs and advertisements on lots of activities to do and where, all over the place you will see a sign. Plan on budget it is American value prices everywhere inside Cancun, but currency is better now that when I was there. Get ready for the weather its hot, hot, hot. When we were there at 9 am it was already 31 C. I literally slept on our balcony on a bed outside our room, actually felt very comfortable. Only 1 day it rained and got me but it was still warm either way. The Cancun people are very polite and can assist you as well if they speak English. I had an advantage because I can speak Spanish as well. On average temps at night were still 21 C so being from my cold part of Canada I was in heaven there.
Things to try while there if your interested:
Food - cultural cuisine.
Clubs - lots to choose from and all have something interesting.
Hotel hopping - all offer it and lots have great deals on drinks and food and activities.
Deep Sea Fishing - the experience is amazing for any fisherman at $80 for a 5 hour trip, there is a dinner included with most..
Snorkling - lots of guides take you to 4 locations that I remember at $60 per person about a 3 - 4 hour event.
Scuba diving - again like snorkling but much better where you go at $100 / person for 3 hours.
Parasailing - lots of fun and well worth $70 / person if you got 4 people trying it about 20 minutes of seeing Cancun from the sky.
Jet skies - lots to choose from on the beaches at around $70 - $100 and lots of hour packages.
Bullfighting - this is the real thing the bull dies in the end (did not know that at first till I saw it) its about a 4 hour event done 2 - 4 times a week for $40 / person. The meat is used by local restuarants and you get a dinner with it.
Ruin site seeing - lots to see lots of choices. Starts in the morning where a tour bus picks you up if you book ahead with hotel. Its like a 1 - 3 hour drive depending on locations. Its a full day event with meals and informative guides and shopping. You back in about 7 - 8 hours or so.
Awards - lots of locations and clubs offer prizes. We got lucky on our last days we won a 3 day rent free Jeep YJ. Since there was 8 of us there we all enjoyed the Jeep to get around after we knew the area well.
Check the skies - literally look up regular there are single pilot planes with banners on deals and sites to see flying over you regular every few hours.
Clean and Amazing area - literally the people who take care of keeping the Cancun area garbage free and gardens trimming and so on do a great job, they start at 5 am I think cause by 9 am they place is spotless. Right after New Years 2000 there was alot of mess by 8 am I saw not dirt anywhere. They do a great job making the place look top notch.
OK, now I know I want to go back, writing this to help you made me start to miss the place
Have a great time though, the experience is the best.
PS. Stick to bottled water, its safer and better and get ready to see lots of little reptiles just about everywhere outside.
Tony
