common courtesy

If you are interested in a reptile in the classifieds and you email the seller on several occasions, and don't get a reply should you assume that the reptile is sold? If it is sold and the seller doesn't want to go through the trouble of emailing everybody back, would it be too much trouble to edit the ad to let everyone know that the item is sold? Common courtesy is appreciated, remembered, and usually rewarded.
Paul.

I don't assume the reptile is sold. I assume the seller is an ignoramus who will not be getting my money. A simple "Sorry, the animal is sold" is all that is required. Not hard to do.

unfortunatly it happens ALL the time.. I'm still waiting to hear back from three people that I have emailed.. One person, just reposted the animals I was interested in, so, I KNOW they're still available.. But that's fine, I found em somewhere else and the new seller has been a PLEASURE to deal with..

I agree, on more than one occasion I've just assumed that an animal is sold, then one, two and even three weeks later an email shows up with mystery information about the animals I inquired about (and most times either found elsewhere or forgot about for the time being)! I'd say if it's possible, just have the post deleted after the animal is sold!

It's frustrating when you initially see the ad on one reptile website, you email them showing an interest and a week later it's on this website. I guess my money is no good, LOL.

I just resent an email myself today that I've waited a week & a 1/2 for a reply for already. Pretty bad when you are contacting what is supposed to be one of Eastern Canadas main distributors of Herps about $1,400.00 specimens & aren't even acknowledged, makes it hard to spend your $ with them. I'll just have to spend the 3G elsewhere I guess, Mark
P.S. I myself personally answer every email & try to do so promptly, whether it is a simple husbandry Q & ASAP for sure if someone wants to give me $ : )

Yup, I've had it happen a few times too. My rule is if you do it once, than I'm not giving you a second chance.

I have to agree if a person can't return an email or call then they don't want the sale that bad.

I totally agree, especially with high dollar animals and items. If the seller can't take 30 seconds and reply, then I'm sure I can find someone that will and will actually want to make the money!

I guess some people are good at breeding reptiles but business and customer relations just isn't their cup of tea. And then there are those that are great at all three. To some this is their bread and butter, and to others, a hobby that can generate some cash for supplies and more herps. It's what you make it.

i couldnt agree more with all of your posts....

but if it is your first time dealing with them and say they dont get back to you.. if another opritunity comes up you shouldnt hold that one time against them... give them another chance.. if they dont get back to you again then so be it.. dont do business..

imo anything can happen... your e-mail could have gotten mixed up in the shuffle, maybe it never arrived.. ive been told on many ocasions that someone sent me an e-mail but i never recieved it..

the way i figure it 3 strikes your out..

Be aware that some large scale breeders complain that they respond to emails, but due to the volume of mail they send out, their messages get trapped in spam filters. Not saying that's necessarily the case here, but it never hurts to send a follow up email with your contact number in it. I give them the benefit of the doubt at least the first couple of times... Now if they can't call me and they want to sell their animal- that's just bad business.

I've tried everything; emails, PM's. I've even gone on their website and tried to contact them through there. Not only once but at least a half dozen times on different occasions (responding to 2 different ads). I've got money that's burning a hole in my pocket, if I don't get rid of it I'm going to go nuts! LOL.
